Beautiful Hike
Jul. 2021 • Couples
This is a moderate but beautiful hike. Be ware that this area has a lot of bear activity. We had two Grizzlies walk into the trail a little way in front of us even though we were making plenty of noise. They wondered off and we continued on our way and really enjoyed the hike. Unless there was another parking lot that we didn’t see, parking is limited.

Watch the salmon run
Jun. 2021
At the recommendation of the Kenai NP representative, we stopped at Russian River Falls on our way to Seward for a hike to see Salmon. Easy hike thru the woods to the Falls and observation platforms. Plenty of salmon trying to swim upstream, but at our visit no Bear in the falls. Did hike 600 yds downstream to watch the sport-fishing groups snag some fish. Definitely worth the time and the hike.

Easy & beautiful hike
Jul. 2021 • Family
Such a beautiful hike and easy, too! Great path to talk along to get to the falls. The trail was not crowded when we went, but it was a weekday morning. I can imagine it might get quite crowded on the weekend. It cost 11 dollars for parking. Seeing the waterfall and the salmon jumping is so worth more! I would highly recommend this hike to anyone and everyone.

A fun hike, beautiful river and amazing wildlife viewing!

The hike into the falls area is well used. The path was easy to walk as long as you had good shoes. Bring extra water!! We watched a wounded bear feeding on salmon. The bears paw was injured and it had difficulty catching and eating it’s fish. It was a breath taking experience!

Bear & salmon watching

Great location for bear watching up close. Also a great place to view salmon spawning during the spawning season. Beautiful!

Awesome Hike - With Salmon and Bears!
Aug. 2020
A kayak guide from Seward recommended my wife and I drive to Russian River Falls, hike the 2.1 miles to the falls, and enjoy the salmon run while possibly also seeing some bears. The guide was spot on! After seeing documentaries on TV seeing salmon leap from river level to one another while running the 'gauntlet' of bears, it was a bit surreal to personally witness it! This hike, during salmon run, is most definitely worth the $11 parking fee!

Meorable Experience
Jul. 2020
The hike from the parking lot to the Falls is an hour. We took our time walking, while taking photos. We saw people on bikes and other hikers around 11:00 am.
The hike ends at a wooden deck, where we safely viewed lots of salmon in the river and one brown bear trying to catch a fish.

Bears
Aug. 2020
We did (and did not) want to see bears. While awesome, wild animals are unpredictable. The week before, someone had been mauled an hour's drive away. In any event, the salmon were running. And, we watched as two brown bears caught salmon, from two wood decks located 150 feet away. Stay on the trail, make noise, keep your distance and bring bear spray just in case.

Nice hike
Aug. 2020 • Family
We liked this 5-mile round trip hike through the woods. It’s relatively easy and well-marked. It doesn’t have the jaw-dropping scenery or panoramic views that some other Alaskan hikes have, but it’s still nice. And seeing the salmon jump as they try to make their way up the falls is a sight worth seeing. I wouldn’t plan a trip around this hike, but if you’re in the area and have a few hours available it’s definitely worth doing.

Easy hike
Jul. 2020
This hike is a great stop between Anchorage and Seward. We parked in the lower lot and walked up a steep path to the main trail, which is gravel. It is about 2.3 miles each way, and there are two viewing platforms above the water. We saw salmon jumping, as well as a bear that came out of the woods briefly. There were quite a few people on the trail, so I imagine that it would be even more crowded when it is normal tourist season. The only downfall was that parking was $11.
