I was fishing with Itu last week. Aitutaki is better than on movies, it is the last paradise on the earth. Itu is a great and humble person who is really dedicating each second of his job to the clients and who knows where are the ghosts in the flats and milky water. Without him I would never have caught such bones. The bones there are BIG , very BIG !. If you want to catch them use Gamakatsu SL12S size 2 hooks, the Tiemco TMC811S opens. I used only 3 fly patterns but of different weights 0.8 , 1,2 and 1,7 grams. The best was the Crazy Charlie ,head orange colour, body orange or sand colour and EP fibers colour pale or pale pink .
I used a Rio Tropical Outbund Short WF8F 330 gr for the flats and a RIO General Purpose Tropical F/I Sinking Rate Flt/1.5 ips 310 grain WF8 for the milks. As tippet I used Rio Fluoroflex 20 lb for the flats and 30 lb for the milks. The only negative remark is that the other fisherman I met there , from Australia and New Zealand, were not so friendly as in general I meet on my fly fishing trips, they didn't want to talk about the material and flies they were using. No problem my staying with Itu was like accomplishing my dream and I will return. Fabio Soldati, Savosa Switzerland

We spent two weeks in the Cook Islands this past March. Four days on Rarotonga and nine days on Aitutaki. Raro was great but Aitutaki is "drop dead georgeous". We stayed at Popoara Ocean Breeze Villas on Autitaki and would highly reccommend Allen and Maria Mills place for great food and very cozy bungalows. They were great hosts and their Boatshed Bar and Grill is a classic. We fished with Etu Davey for four days and caught some HUGE bonefish. We boated three double digit fish: the largest a bit over 14 lbs. We had other large fish on but for varied reasons, they are waiting for our return. Etu is an outstanding guide and a very pleasent guy to spend time with on the water. Very patient and helpful. A gentleman by the name of Ian Dollery is working at the Boatshed in affilation with the Marine Resources folks in efforts to get a sound sports fishery on solid ground. From what we observed, he has things going in the right direction. Ian was very helpful during our stay. We had read much about netting of large numbers of bonefish in the past. None was evident during our stay. Hopefully this will continue. There are giant bonefish at Aitutaki; if wisdom prevails, they willl be here for a very long time. Great company, good times. We will be back soon.

The two of us were filyfishing with another guide on the island for two days (he only works three days a week however) and with very strong winds over the next three days we went for a cruise and a drive around the island instead. So late on the second last day he pulled out, saying the southerly winds were just too strong! We'd had a few close calls but still not connected with a Bone so instead of giving up we rang Itu's wife at 6pm. She got back to us at a different restaurant at about 8pm. Having called up two guides to help us instead of their day off, Rua (Itu's bro.) and Sakka pick us up at 8am the final day and off we go. These boys were the real deal and while Sakka was powering the flats boat 100 Yamaha off into the distance, Rua was altering two of our flies that they didn't like via the fly vice screwed onto the front of the boat! Great day with a wonderful 61cm Sighted Bone landed and released after a 200m speed run with an audience of 30 plus tourists watching from the large tour boat heading to OneFoot island. I'm going back next year certainly, wiser than this trip and Itu and his team are the way to go. Maybe a big GT or two next time. Very professional in so many different ways.

We went out with Rua who was an amazing guide - kind and patient. We caught a couple of bone fish (no eating through - they are catch and release to protect the industry) The fish give an awesome fight.

generally speaking, I abhor fishing guides. I prefer to go it alone - and do my own thing. When I visited Aitutaki (for the 3rd time) last Christmas, I decided I needed to engage a local guide even of just for the transport to some of the more inaccessible sand flats/cays ... but as it turned out, itu Davey was a pure delight to spend the day with. I enjoyed his company immensely, which was an unexpected and added bonus on top of his ability to find bonefish.
He is a genuinely nice person - and he goes out of his way to make your day a special one. He never once, lapsed into 'just going through he motions' - his enthusiasm was much appreciated. I really recommend him to anyone wanting to fish Aitutaki for a day or two - or even a week. But contact him via e-mail before you arrive - as he can be booked ut well in advance.

Had a great full day out with Bone. Fortunate enough to land four fish so couldn't fault the day. I recommend E2's Way.

Amazing day hunting in the insanely beautiful lagoon. Tia was patient and clear with up-skilling me in the art of salt water fly fishing. We landed two Bonefish, one huge GT, 3 smaller Trevally, and tons of Goatfish. Awesome fun.

Excellent experience! Ty was my guide, very professional and helped me improve my fly casting. He worked hard constantly and put me over a lot of bonefish as well as GT. It was a wonderful trip and I can't wait to return. Make sure you bring plenty of gear, fly fishing gear isn't for sale on Aitutaki and GTs can be really hard on your equipment!

We fished with the Davey brothers and nephews. They were all excellent. They were very helpful and patient. The bonefish here are very large and cautious. Because of their size and the fact there are no sharks finding fish on an open flat is not the norm. Because they prefer deeper water they are very difficult to see. There are times you have to trust the guide. If they say there is a fish in that location, the fish is there. Like any bone fishing experience your success will depend on your casting skills. Because of the current, I would suggest you leave your bead chain flies at home. Lead head in small and medium sizes worked best. You will want to bring some large lead heads that may be helpful on the odd chance you get a shot in deep water. The myth that you will fish milky water and drag the bottom with heavy flies is not a fact. The two weeks we fished was site casting only. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility if you requested that style of fishing it could be provided. We would highly recommend the Davey brothers as your guides. They also provide deep sea charters as well, but since we are bone fishers we only site cast for the bonefish.

We just fished five days with Rua and Ben, Itu's brother and cousin. We have fished for bonefish all over the world and this is a unique location, especially for big bones. You really compare it to any place else, not the Bahamas or Mexico or the Seychelles or Christmas Island. Because there are no sharks or other predators in the lagoon, and the bones can stay in deeper water and feed on large sand worms, shrimp, mollusks, they behavior differently than anywhere else. That's where the guides come in....they know the lagoon, flats and the fish intimately, and their ability to spot the bones and direct anglers on how to catch them is top notch. Rua has vision as good as any guide we've fished with. Itu and his wife, Kaleena, head up the operation, and their passion for conservation of their resources is admirable, plus they really focus on giving anglers a great overall experience. Itu is often book months in advance, but he's back up by his two brothers and two cousins if you book in advance you'll be with a quality guide. They have fly fishing equipment if you don't have your own, but we recommend you take your own. Their boats are good and set up for fly fishing. And if you like offshore fishing, they do that also. We highly recommend fishing with these guides, but again, keep in mind, this is unique bonefishing with chances at really large bones, but it's more like fly fishing in New Zealand for trout, than fishing rivers in the U.S. and racking up numbers. This is a quality fishery, not quantity.

I’ve been trying to sending an email to E2, for the last two days, but the message keeps coming back undeliverable. Anyone have any insight? Not sure if it’s just a computer glitch, or if it something else. I haven’t tried phoning, thought I’d ask first if anyone has info. Thanks for your help.

We are on Rarotundo from Oct 2nd to the 8th and on Aitutaki from Oct 9 th the 15th. We are interested in bone fishing one day each week. Full day for 2. Is this a good timely season for bone fishing and what is the daily rate for 2 anglers ???? Thanks. Bryan

when is the best time of year for bones and gts. I fly fish but am a fairly average caster. 50-60 ft (I will practice) is about it for me.
How much does it cost. My family like snorkeling on the reef so we can also do that

1/2 of our couple doesn't bonefish (but takes great photos when I land them), if we do the 1/2 day charter can we add in a little snorkeling ?

2 of us planning a few days on Aitutaki. we notice all the bonefishing info refers to flyfishing. We are very experienced fishers but have no flyfishing background. We will have our own spinning (eggbeater) gear. Is it possible that using your lures we would be able to attempt for bonefish?
Appreciate your advise. Sid
