Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A nice stop on our tour. It is an ancient stone temple. There is a rock plateau in the rear that was used for sacrifices. Only men were allowed inside. Nice history.

The remains of an ancient temple on the way to the Belvedere viewpoint. Not too much to see but there is a history to the place. Really needs some more information boards around.

While en route to Belvedere Lookout, we spied this beautiful spot at the apex of one of the many turns headed up the mountain. We stopped and are happy we did.
In addition to the cultural sites, we saw the neatest blue tailed lizards.

We drove past on our way up to Belvedere Lookout, but marked it for return. Great idea! Going from the stuffing vistas of Belvedere into the close and shaded Marae was a great decision. We loved the stone work and the moss.

We had never visited a polynesian Marae before so we were fascinated by this one. Apparently the Marae was a sacred meeting place of village importance. It was used for religious and village meetings. We found the Ahu a new notion. It was the stand for the god. Apparently the staues of gods were taken by the missionaries and dumped in the deep sea in the 1800's. Worth visiting to try and understand Polynesian religious beliefs.

Great place to visit if you have an hour spare. Shaded so you can visit even during a hot sunny day. Information boards provide a lot of details about the sites and provide a good understanding of what you are looking at. Involves to river crossings for one of the hikes and difficulty will depend on the recent rain.

We stopped here as part of an island tour. Our guide explained the history of the site and it was a little sad to hear the demise of a people who seemed to have a perfect existence before the arrival of conquering forces. The people have accommodated their conversion to religion but it is still sad to see the way the indigenous peoples used to worship the sea and sky has ended. There are some nice structures to see, the gardens are rustic, beware of mosquitoes as there are lots of them.

This is one of many Maraes you can see in a network of them in the French Polynesian mountains. Very neat to see that after all the centuries, these still stand. Easy to get to, mild hike! Just wear sturdy shoes! We did a self-guided tour as we kind of stumbled across this, but the signs were informative! Great free attraction!

This stop was part of our tour and it was very interesting and I loved hearing about the history. The people on Moorea were so nice and you could just see how proud they are of their heritage. I really would love to go back some day.
