Has many nice exhibits which somehow had alot of art in it which was pretty cool too. The Butterfly Pavilion was the highlight though.

This beautiful museum does a beautiful job orienting a visitor to both the history and culture of Costa Rica. The travel through the butterfly aviary is a highlight of any trip with the beautiful specimens fluttering about that always bring peace and joy to my...More

The informative signs were in English & Spanish so we were able to read about the history of CR from the first explorers up until now. There were lots of displays through the museum, nothing interactive, reading only. The museum is located in old Army...More

Interesting butterfly area and some excellent pre Colombian artefacts including some outstanding stone tables. Easy to spend an absorbing 60-90 minutes here (in a city centre that is otherwise very limited as regards tourist attractions).

Definetly worth a visit if in San Jose. Its way longer than you think it is and crazy informative about the history and background of the Costa Rican people. The butterflies were beautiful and the view from the top is spectacular.

I think it's about USD$9... if you pay with USD and need change back, they give the change back in local currency...You can also pay in local currency but the entrance fee is higher for foreigners than locals...
