Only took an hour, our guide was knowledgeable and seemed to care immensely about the history and preservation of this magnificent theater!

Unless you're actually coming here to see a performance, you're limited to just seeing the outside, the main entrance and the lobby during non-theatre times. There's also a small cafe that's open for lunch. It's definitely worth seeing, but there's not a lot to see!

The guided tour of the National Theatre, the only classical building in San José, is well worth your time. There are a lot of stories behind this building and its architecture that are not obvious when visiting on your own. Of the attractions we visited in the city of San José, the theatre definitely was the most interesting!

The coffee rooms at the Teatro Nacional are a delight with a great selection of delicious fresh grounds from which to choose. Great cake / dessert trolley, too!

The tour was $10 a person for a 45-50 minute tour. The guide gave the history of the theater and then once the tour is over you are free to roam around and take pictures. A beautiful piece of Costa Rican history.

A great example of a Victorian opera House, the Tourist ticket allows you to a grand saloon, the auditorium and grand staircase. The guide leaflet is included in the ticket price and is in Spanish and English. Well worth a visit.

Just a little jewel in the heart of San José. Beautiful architecture and decor it is a vibrant artistic venue. Lots of interesting activities along the year keep the theatre alive and vibrant always. Went to see the Beethoven's Solemn Mass and it was a high profile music event. The Costa Rican Symphonic Orchestra and the Costa Rican Symphonic chorus... More
