All the workmanship is superior and a fine example of what can be produced in Costa Rica. Everything they make is museum quality. I purchased a bowl there to take as a gift to an artist friend in India. The receiver was delighted with the delicate workmanship and beauty of the finish. But the biggest plus in visiting the shop... More

Stopped here with my mom the day before I left Costa Rica and it was an amazing experience to end my trip with! We arrived and Minor immediately welcomed us into the shop and gave us an insightful, in depth tour of the garden, workshop, and explained how Barry sculpts his wood creations. The whole tour was very engaging and... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the wood working shop with Minor, a very personable guide. The quality of the wood work is amazing; no cheap crap here! You will have a peaceful, no pressure shopping experience. As a bonus, you will also meet Negro, a lovely three-legged rescue dog.

We were charmed by the beautiful hillside wood working center for Barry Biesanz's masterful wood creations. Our tour guide, Minor, shared his passion and vision with generous detail and examples. We learned much about indigenous trees, the time and detail that goes into making each precious bowl, or wooden object, the various hard woods, including gorgeous rosewood. Lovely opportunity to... This property, owned by Barry, is a great property just to walk around, so peaceful. His showroom has magnificent pieces of all sizes and price ranges. I highly recommend a visit!

This studio is a bit off the beaten track, but worth a visit, particularly if you are interested in purchasing wood products. We started with a tour of the facility and a nice description of the process. After we heard about the fact that it takes 15 years to make one bowl we were quite worried that the products would... The free tour of the garden and woodworking process was fascinating. Minor who gave the tour was very informative . The quality and pride cannot be surpassed. I bought a number of pieces. I have been to Costa Rica several times and have bought a number of jewelry boxes and miscellaneous boxes at the Artisans Market downtown which had the... More

Of all the craft shops we visited while in Costa Rica, Biesanz Woodworks ranks at the very top. This is a real gem, and Senor Minor made our visit the most rewarding of all our various tours during our time in country. As an unexpected bonus, he maintains a drop dead gorgeous botanical garden at the rear of the property,... More

We spent our last 2 days in Costa Rica in the city of San Jose. While there, we went to a truly wonderful woodworking artisan studio up on a hill in the city. You must have a functional GPS or a knowledgeable taxi driver to find the location--you wind your way up through all sorts of neighborhoods on winding streets... More
