- Emir t1 contributionManuel Antonio beachSome really beautiful beaches that are worth knowing. I have read that there are many complaints about the abuse of parking, what I recommend is better to leave the car in Quepos. Trucks leave from the Quepos terminal all day (until 9 pm) to take you to the beach and back, all for less than a dollar per person. The trip from Quepos to the beach is approximately 15 minutes. The bus also leaves you on a street that takes you to the entrance of the nature reserve, the cost is approximately 15 dollars per person, I recommend buying the tickets on the SINAC website in advance because buying the tickets on the day may run out. . The park is beautiful and the route is very well marked. On the outskirts you can hire a guide or enter on your own. What I'm saying is in case you want to go on your own without a tour, since many (not all) are at very excessive prices.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 February 2024
- greeny76Chepstow, United Kingdom24 contributionsBuy a week ahead during peak timesFebruary is really busy. Book at least a week ahead if you want to go around without a guide. More expensive guided tickets are available at shorter notice. If you can bear crowds, the wildlife is amazing - so much to see. Other parks are cheaper and much less busy.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 February 2024

We could not enter the Manuel ANtonio National Park, I told the person who attended us that we only wanted to be on the beach, but he told us that it was not possible. For that reason we went to Espadilla, but in the end, we had a very good timeVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 February 2024
- Rainee ESeattle, Washington133 contributionsBeautiful BeachBeautiful beach and not over crowded. We took the inexpensive city bus from our hotel to the park, which removed the frustration of parking fees and traffic. We had a park reservation in advance. We didn’t know that you can’t bring plastic drink bottles into the park, so had to quickly drink those and put into recycle bin. I recommend bringing your own reusable drink bottle. We walked through the park for about 25 minutes to the beach. Pretty easy walk and saw Capuchine monkeys along the way, including one carrying a tiny baby on her back. There were a couple of monkeys trying to get into people’s belongings under the trees. Nearby people shooed them away.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 March 2024
- maria sMontevideo, Uruguay200 contributionsbeautiful beach!wild and wonderful beaches!! one gentle and the other rough, at about 100 or 200 meters, the calm turns into super fun waves!! Warm water! We miss some lounge chairs but I guess that would go against the spirit of the park🤷🏽♀️. There is shade due to the many trees there and it is full of monkeys that are friendly and it is a spectacle apart to observe their behavior and interaction with humans! In our case, at 3:00 p.m. the park rangers told us that we had to leave the park. Keep in mind that it closes at 4 pm!! In the park they sell food and drinks, in a single place, “La Jaula”, which solves the moment. and you cannot leave there to consume. They should put fans in the place… It has some bathrooms that are acceptable… It's worth enjoying it!! Beautiful beaches!!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 March 2024
- denisse hNunoa, Chile140 contributionsExquisite beachAfter finishing the tour through the Manuel Antonio park, we arrived at this beach that is incredible, has spectacular views and is super well maintained, one of the best we saw on our trip to Costa Rica. The waves are very gentle and the water is warm, inviting you to relax and connect with nature in that idyllic place. When you go into the sea, remember to close and store your things well because otherwise the monkeys will open them and take them away. Everything is very well maintained and a truly incredible view.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 March 2024
- Julia ALondon, United Kingdom407 contributionsBeautiful beachVery picturesque beach inside the national park so you do have to book and pay for park admission to access the beach. Manuel Antonio NP is one of the most popular parks in Costa Rica but numbers are capped with specific entrance times. Take the time to enjoy the trails - there’s plenty of wildlife to spot. DO NOT take any food, snacks or anything edible - it will be confiscated at the bag search on admission. There is a cafe and changing facilities before you reach the beach. Be careful of your belongings - the monkeys have yet to be told that visitors don’t have snacks in their bags anymore and will have a rummage given the chance!Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 April 2024
- Davide CSheffield, United Kingdom164 contributionsThe perfect beachGreat beach, not too crowded with nice sand and services all around. We rented an umbrella and chairs from Glen, and it was fantastic. Included in the price were also paddle boards, which were fun. As the tide came up, we had to keep moving up. The beach was much smaller and high tide!Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 May 2024
- Claudia LSan Antonio, Texas74 contributionsPhenomenal Park! Hiking, crystal clear water, & monkeys all in one place!Best National park ever! We were indecisive if tortuga island or Manuel Antonio National park. From San Jose 3 hours. I’m glad we chose the park. Many restaurants with beautiful views as you get closer. Be careful with all the guys on the street trying to make you park where they designate you. They will charge you a lot more. Don’t fall for it. Keep going… there is an actual parking space near the entrance. Paid USD $10. You will be asked by many if you need a tour. We didn’t and in all honesty I don’t think you need one. So we only paid the $18 USD online for entrance per person. Upon arrival, they will inspect your bags throughly. No outdoor food or plastic waters. Recommend: jug of water, comfortable shoes (not sandals) can be slippery. I had hiking boots which helped me, later I changed to water shoes and swim suit. Walked about 30-45 minutes. We went all the way to “Playas Gemelas” part which was extremely better and less crowded. Saw about 6-7 monkeys on our way back (it was raining and less people). Also, lots of crabs and watch out for red fire ants. *Take mosquito repellent and sunscreen.* Beach towel, and fully charged phone/camera. You will love this place!!Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 July 2024
- SagarSavlaJersey City, New Jersey184 contributionsAmazing beach in Manuel Antonio National ParkWe visited this with our 7 year old. It was a rainy day so luckily there were less tourists. We could buy tickets last minute and enter. After a walk of 15-20 minutes we reached the beach. It was not too crowded as it was raining. My son and wife enjoyed swimming in the beach for approximately an hour. If not for the rains we would have stayed longer. The views from the shore is amazing. There are showers and restrooms very close to the shore. It was one of the nicest beach we visited in entire Costa Rica. I would recommend it if you in the area.Visited November 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 November 2024

Make sure that you get to the park early. We arrived at about 9:30 and it was chaotic. People are trying to get you to park quite a distance away but we took our chances and drove almost to the park gates and got parking about 100m away. Don't hesitate to try and negotiate your parking fees.
You have to buy a ticket to get into the park and when we arrived the line was probably about an hour long and you're stuck standing in the heat and humidity.
We lucked out when we were approached by an ICT certified guide who gladly produced his government ID. He asked if we had any questions or needed help. We asked if we could hire him for a private tour which was the best thing that we did. Not only was the tour price very reasonable ($20 ea for 2 1/2+ hours) but he also had a friend who had pre-bought tickets and for the same price as waiting in line we had our tickets within minutes and we were on our way.
Our guide was like a walking encyclopedia. His English was excellent and he was a super nice kid!!! Very quickly he got us viewing all kinds of cool things through his scope. The best part was that he could take excellent photos through the scope with my iPhone.
We ran into lots of people who were wandering aimlessly without guides and they just weren't seeing anything.
One warning is that it was extremely hot. By the end of our tour we had walked about 3 1/2 miles and were soaked with sweat and exhausted by by the heat.

This is a fabulous beach and perfect place for a run or walk. Come here every morning
There are chairs with umbrellas available. We stay for 3 hour in the morning and are only charged $6.00 .
The waves are rough but perfect to soak in .
Love the views of the skyline ..fun to watch the people sky sailing.
Very safe beach with excellent life guards

We did a morning nature tour, which I highly recommend! We aren’t big “excursion” people and don’t like to pay for unnecessary things, but we would have probably only seen 5 out of the 25 animals/insects we stopped to look at. And they have scopes that they’ll take pictures through for you, which gives you 5000x better photos than you would get otherwise. Just make sure you have all your beach gear with you if you do the nature tour - once you leave the park you can’t get back in.
We have had the opportunity to visit some beautiful places, but these beaches are at the top of the list! Gorgeous white sand, warm water, beautiful landscape (I’m not a huge fan of ocean only views), and hardly anyone there. I think there was a total of 100 people on the beach and everyone was well spread out. There are bathrooms with outdoor showers for rinsing (you can’t use soap). You can’t bring food in, but the cafe inside the park is pretty reasonably priced and the food was better than we expected. I think we ended up spending $20 USD for food, drinks, and one gelato.
If you only have an hour, it may not be worth the entry price, but if you have half a day or a full day, there’s no question...do it! You won’t regret it.

I managed to travel to costa rica before the quarantine lockdown and get out just in time. My final day, I made the 3 hour 40 min. drive from monteverde to manuel antonio beach. Approaching the beach while on the mountain, their are a few pull over spots to check out the view of antonio beach which is quite a view. And that's about it. Once you arrive to the beach area, their are locals in the roads waving their arms trying to guide people to their parking lots. ( make it seem as if you must go the way they say ). Once trapped in the mess of cars, they charged $5 dollars for parking and if you want chair and umbrella, another $35. While on the beach, their was a local surfer lessons person with his music really loud very close to us. I asked to turn down the music and he replied, he would do whatever he wants. So we move a chair further away from the guy. Aside from him, bombarded by vendors every couple minutes walking the beach trying to sell their products. Very very annoying. I come to a beach for the relaxation and I got none of that while here. Even after leaving , more "parking attendants" stand in middle of road and try and wave you into another parking lot as if you cant drive down the road. I didnt fall for it this time. They quickly moved out the way...

I’ve been in CR for a month and visited many of the beautiful protected areas during Covid. This has been the one negative experience thus far. It’s $18 to get in but ALL the trails are closed (and you only discover this once inside the park) - there is only beach access. The staff are disinterested, rude and unhelpful. I would definitely not recommend visiting here until they sort out the park management and get it to the same standard as the other parks in CR, many of which are privately managed. Very disappointing.

Fortunatelly we read reviews before coming to the park. Some men dressed as park rangers will stop you maybe 1km before the park entrance and tell you to park on the right. From the reviews I read they will make you to pay 80 dollars per person for a guide, which you don’t need. The only way to go around it is to say you have a guide already waiting for you at the entrance. 200m before the entrance is another guy stopping for parking, this time we stopped there and paid 4000 for parking. I haven’t seen free parking anywhere else after that.
We haven’t seen many animals in the park and we been in the park since 9:30 until 4PM. We just heard some howler monkeys, which we also heard at our accomodation (where we also saw squirel monkeys), we saw one aguti and iguanas.
Be careful if you bring snacks to a beach with iguanas, one of them attacked and scratched my girlfriend as soon as she took out her sandwhich. I thought just monkeys are dangerous with food but iguanas are even worse, which makes me think they 100% feed them on these beaches so they stay there, same as monkeys. Therefore this park is more like a zoo.
The only plus of this park is the trails are all paved or you have wooden bridges, much better than Monteverde trails which is even worse, no built trails and even less animals than here.
The beach itself was quite nice but again, these things should be for free, without entrance fee, guides and scams. The water is too murky for snorkelling although at one point you could see some fish on the right side.

After touring the park yesterday, 7/22/21, I have to say it's a beautiful park, with a wonderful picturesque beach, and amazing wildlife. It's popular and seems to be a "must see" for most tourists. However, let me give you a dose of reality.
First, there are equally beautiful beaches nearby. MANP (Manuel Antonio National Park) is a bit of a hassle to access. To park, you'll pay $7.50, after running a gamut of fake parking "officials" who try to convince you to park away from the entrance. Do not fall for it. And I would certainly never give them my keys. A man named Chalo runs the only legitimate parking lot, and he is in the last lot, closest to the park entrance. He will identify himself. If you have booked a tour, the company should give you the same information.
Second, the entry requirements rival boarding an airplane. They are restrictive on anything you can bring into the park. A "gluten allergy" was not good enough to warrant bringing special food for one member of our party. (Maybe the term "Celiac" would have worked?) We had to throw her food away at the entrance. They will search any backpacks, so beware.
Third, the park entrance fee is a little absurd at $18 per person. The other nearby parks are free, not restrictive, and just as beautiful.
Fourth, it's a long walk to the actual beach from the parking lot. There's a long beautiful boardwalk leading to the beach, with scenery and animals worth seeing, but it's a bit of a walk. It was a shorter walk from our hotel to the public beach, than from the parking lot to MANP beach.
Advantages? The other beaches and parks have an annoying level of vendors (probably legitimate and illegitimate) who hound you to buy trinkets, coconuts, cigars, drinks, and so on. Resist it, no matter the offer. Be firm, and they will go away. If you show any interest (for example, asking the price), they will turn on the sales pitch more.
Overall, probably worth a visit if you plan to stay all day, swim, and enjoy the beach. But I'd much rather visit a nearby public beach.

This is the Manuel Antonio beach near the girls and restaurants. Not the one inside the Manuel Antonio National Park. Really liked this beach. The locals brought their big speakers and they played music. You can rent a beach umbrella and 2 lounge chairs for $10.00 (for the day) not sure if that was the price because there were not as many people as it’s supposed to be due to the covid situation. You can order drinks and food from some of the restaurants across the street and they will deliver it to you. They had the banana boat, jet skis, and parasailing, horse riding. Lot of vendors, from souvenirs, hats, coconuts, ice cream, ceviche, and more. Not aggressive vendors, they just pass by.

Manuel Antonio is a located near the famous biodiverse jungle and a national park on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. We lived here at Villa Vigia in the end of December to the beginning of January. One thing I can tell you if you come here, you better not drive you own car as the roads everywhere are very narrow and quite dangerous by American standards. We ended up taking local taxis and Uber. Uber works here OK, it’s just it took 15-25 min to wait to a car… and locals tell me that Uber is not even legal here… I guess they don’t care.
The Espadilla beach is a local favorite. It seems we saw a lot more local Costa Ricans here than tourists. The beach is very large. It is quite dirty and not well taken care of. The water color is more like kind of grey to dark grey because of dark sand. The temperature of the water is ver warm. I think this is the warmest water I have ever experienced, even warmer than Hawaii and Aruba.
The Manual Antonio section of the beach belongs to the national park and we understood that unless one has a day tickets to the park they can not enjoy this section of the beach.
Overall, it’s worth a visit here.

This truly is a beautiful and unique place. The beach is very calm and lovely, some shade along the forest edge was nice. Water is super clear and we snorkeled for a little bit and saw a dozen or so fish but not a lot. A wonderful place on the beach, can’t complain. Going early in the morning is advised since it gets extremely busy later in the day but is still manageable.

Not the spectacular beach that’s inside the park, no. However there’s still a pretty amazing public beach in Manuel Antonio which is accessible 24/7 and though busy, it’s not overly crowded.

Is this a suitable swimming beach for a family including a 9-year-old? Are there times of day when the waves and riptides are safer? Any other safe swimming beaches between there and Jaco? We will be in Jaco for a few days but plan on using it as a base.
Written 9 February 2020
There were lifeguards there constantly warning of riptides. The water is shallow for some time and our 5-11 year olds all had a blast! Definitely didn’t go deep.

Hola,

Salu2

Hi. It’s not clear whether you can pack in your own food when visiting the beach. Is it not allowed or maybe just a bad idea because of the aggressive monkeys? Thanks.

No worries. Monkeys visit the area once a day - during early afternoon. They primarily stick to the palm trees, so if you are at the bech away from the shadow of the tress, no fuss :)

Buen día estimado. Honestamente no sé permiten la entrada con mascotas. Yo no vi ninguna. La lógica a mi me dice que no deberían entrar mascotas a un parque donde hay otros animales que no son perros... Mejor llamar y preguntar antes de ir
