Description:

The Jaguar Animal Rescue Center is already mentioned as one of the top attractions in Puerto Viejo but there's a great way to see this, get transportation and also see two other top sites in the area. The Animal Rescue Centre, Chocolate Lady and Waterfall tour includes: Entrance and tour of the Jaguar Animal Rescue Centre located near Playa Cocles. This centre serves as a refuge and rehabilitation center for many local animals including members of the cat family, sloths, monkeys, snakes and more. After spending around 2 hours at the rescue center you will visit to see organic indigenous chocolate being made — the whole process from the growing of the Cacao plant to the making of chocolate as well as lots of information about the indigenous culture. Last but not least you will do a short hike to a nice waterfall where you can have a swim. Transportation: pickup and drop-off at your Puerto Viejo hotel All for $55. This is a great deal and you can see so much. And a friendly driver/guide who comes along will make sure you are going to have a great time and makes the whole experience extra special.

The baby sloths at the Rescue Center are adorable - made the day immediately! This place does great work. Only drawback when we were there is there were no jaguars. Chocolate lady was very interesting and we left with some tasty treats. Waterfall was beautiful!!!!! Not a long walk to it. Got to go swimming. And we were treated to... More

This Animal Rescue Center is a must-do on your trip to Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. Not only is it fascinating to see the animals up close but their non-profit volunteering helps to ultimately release the animals back into the wild once healthy. This is a good chance to help the endangered and sick animals through your donation of an entrance... More

This was a really nice day trip. Manuel our driver took good care of us. The animal rescue center is inspiring since they are rescuing animals that are injured, abandoned and abused with the intention of releasing back to the wild not keeping them indefinitely. We were hoping to see jaguars but saw an ocelot and several baby monkeys amongst... More

The Chocolate Lady explained processing chocolate from the Coca tree. Animal reserve shelters injured animals. Seen monkeys, snakes, and a variety of birds Waterfall tour ended with 2 beautiful waterfalls. Got to swim in the ice cold waters. Stopped on the way back and had fresh coconut and pineapple. I have only good things to say about this tour!!

Our guide was full of information and an absolutely delightful person to hang out with for a whole afternoon. It is obvious that her connection with the local Bri Bri people is close and personable. We learned how these people use the nature for survival: herbal medicines, dyes for arts and crafts, housing, heat, and of course, an in-depth lesson... More

The animal rescue center is a must. Our Dutch guide (who spoke perfect English) at the center was very knowledgeable. The birds, the frogs, and of course the monkeys were so cool. After the center, our tour guide took us to the chocolate lady. Wow! This place still makes chocolate in the traditional method, dirt floor and all. She gave... More

We started early with the rescue center and beat the crowds. The guide was very knowledgeable and we saw all kinds of creature. Playing with the monkeys was very cool. The Chocolate lady was my favorite. She went through the whole process of chocolate making and her tribes history. Make sure to bring cash to buy samples! The waterfall is... More

All of the tours were great with the exception of the chocolate tour. It was mosquito infested, and the tour through the muddy and buggy rainforest to look at Cacao was unnecessary. We were told the tour would last 1.5 hours, and we ended up leaving about 30 minutes into it, although we were finished. The chocolate tasting was the... More

I wrote a separate review for the Animal Rescue Center, so this review is just for the other two. If I'm being frank, this tour was underwhelming. The Chocolate Lady tour was incredibly brief- she didn't really show us how to make chocolate, she did a very quick, truncated version where nothing was actually cooked. She basically just showed us... More

Thank you very much for your feedback. This is always welcomed, especially if something was not the way it should have been. To get to know about mistakes is the only way we can improve our product. As for the Chocolate Lady, it is correct, this part is not very long as we feel after the two hours at the... More

great experience! the tour guide through the animal rescue center was very well educated! she was fun and we had a really nice time. We went to the chocolate lady- very authentic experience- it was just my husband and I- we didn't speak her dialect and she didn't speak english- we were able to communicate and she showed us how...
