If you're lucky enough to go on a day when Allen is there he'll tell you all sorts of things about the different plants and help you spot some things you wouldn't see otherwise. Not only did he find us a red poison dart frog but was also able to point out a large green iguana way up in the canopy catching some sun. He'll make sure you have a great time and learn lots at the same time!

Had a great experience today walking through the garden. Alan was a dream host and spent an hour after our walk chatting with us and allowing us to try different fruits. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. for only 3500 c you see wildlife, learn about plants, and get to try some local fruits. Thank you Alan for your excellent hospitality!

it is an American owned place but run by a Costa Rican guy who is great at reception. We read the response from people on the dogs and we kept the cars outside and walked in the dogs were fine and we had no issues infact they were calm and well behaved and one has a bad eye from old age. The walk was great we started earlier then 10am but do wear shoes not flip flops we saw the plants but think that you could have better marking on them although the map was good we also wanted to know more on the plants. We had juice at the end saw some animals and it was a nice walk really. I think you can see things better elsewhere for the cost of 7000 for two but if you dont want to a forest walk then guess this is the right place.

The Botanical Garden at Finca La Isla is a nice oppurtunity to look at local and introduced plants, while having a nice stroll through the foresty area that the garden is located at. On top of that you will see lots of poisinous red tree frogs, which is pretty cool if you haven't seen them already. The guy at the entrance is very nice and helpful and also offers you local fruit and juice. When you do the walk, be aware, that some parts of the garden have paths bordering the forest, which is where we actually encountered a snake, so you have to be careful. Until here I would rate the experience 5/5 stars, HOWEVER: Since we started the walk late, and finished after closing time at 4pm (of which the host said it was no problem at all), somebody must have let the dogs out. So when we where near the exit area we were attacked by two huge German Sheppards, which was the scariest animal encounter we've had in Costa Rica by far. Not only did we have to bypass them to get to the gate, but also nobody seemed to have been there, or willing to call the dogs back. Gladly our reaction, a mix of running, stopping and shouting at them, did work enough from preventing them from biting us, but it could have easily ended differently. Hard to imagine what would have happened, if we had a little kid with us, or if it was just one person vs. 2 giant, agrressive watch-dogs. Now, I know it's Costa Rica and things run a little different here, but seriously, WTF! If it wasn't for this threatening experience I would have rated it 5/5. As it is I would recommend you to visit, BUT finish the walk before 4pm, when there's still someone there to let you out. The price was 7000 colones for 2 people.

A kind of laid back hippie organic farm with a great self-guided tour and wonderful sampling of tropical fruits afterwards with a cup of fresh tropical fruit juice, like Cass.
