Samara Trails is a trail system within the private 346 acre Werner Sauter Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge is in Dry Tropical forest and contains various species of plants and animals including monkeys, birds, mammals, and amphibians. The hike takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete - private hikes are completed at 7am or 3:00 pm and are led by experienced and bilingual guides.

We went on the afternoon hike with Samara Trails in the Werner Sauter Reserve and really enjoyed the tour. The Guides basically know everything and can teach you a lot about the different plants and animals. You recognize that they really care about the environment...More

Great hike in the preserve with Bernie. We learned a ton, had a good hike and saw some native animals, plants, birds, etc. Bernie is extremely knowledgeable and very personable. We would highly recommend if you like this type of activity.

We were in Playa Samara in mid June and booked with Samara Trails as a recommended activity. Berny and driver (Melvin?) arrived promptly at our hotel for our 6.30 am pick-up. The nature reserve area is just outside of town. The hike itself was awesome...More

Berny is a very well known and respected tour guide in Samara. It is well worth it to request and wait for his availability. He was our guide for both the Samara Trails Hike and a day trip to Monteverde. Each tour was expertly led.

We were so lucky to have Luis as our tour guide. He was kind, knowledgeable, and funny. We saw the blue-capped motmot seven times, as well as a whole kerchunkel of monkeys at the end of our tour. Thanks, Luis!More
