I dove with Bobbie Jo at the end of January. We got incredibly lucky with the weather and were able to do a day at the Bat Islands (which for that time of year is not typical). This honestly was one of the most incredible days diving I have ever experienced and will be tough to top - only one boat out there, 3 divers, diving with huge mantas, sharks, enormous schools of fish, rays jumping. Just wow.
We were able to get in 3 days of 3 tank dives - one day local, one at the Bats and one at Catalinas which was great for variety. I enjoyed the local dives as well.
Bobbie Jo keeps the groups small which is always a plus. One day when there were more of us, Roy came as well. Both are very knowledgeable, experienced, friendly, safe diver masters and we had a blast.
Dani and Jose are great captain and crew - professional, friendly, safe. Sirenas has a well run operation.
As always, you get what you pay for. Diving in Coco in general was more expensive than other places, but there are many factors going into that. And I am always willing to pay more for a smaller group and a more special experience.
Thank you for a wonderful trip! Cannot wait to return!

We dove with Sirenas in August 2021. Scott was our dive master and he was awesome to dive with. He prioritized safety first which was important to us. We took our small kids along with us and his crew
graciously helped swim/ snorkel with them while we took turns diving. He also packed lots of snacks for us to eat in between dives. You can tell he is a very experienced diver who really cares about the ecology of the area. He was also thoughtful about which dive locations would work the best for us.
While Sirenas is not the cheapest, we were very happy with the quality of the experience. We even had a bonus of seeing some cheeky monkeys on our shore interval. We would gladly dive with them again when in Costa Rica.

First off, the staff is amazing, Scott is extremely personable and knowledgable, he ensures that we were all feeling safe and informed. Roy is more on the quiet side yet he came out of his shell by the end of the trip, and was lovely to dive with, he gave a very clear briefing before the dive and I appreciated that a lot. Cap'n Santos was very skilled, clean entry in and out of the boat from dives/snorkels and even found us a pod of dolphins. I was a bit of a nervous diver at first (hadn't dove in 6 odd years) but Scott and Roy assured me enough that by the end of it I felt quite confident under the water. My mother was an anxious snorkeler, almost ended up getting out of the water right away, but Scott literally swam with her, with his arm around her the entire time.
Honestly, the only down fall was the visibility. There was a red tide during our stay, and even though they said it was quite a clear day, I was a little unimpressed with the visibility in the Costa Rica waters. We hoped to see manta rays on this trip and we weren't so lucky. However we did see a sea turtle and a white tip reef shark, as well as a pod of dolphins while we were boating. We saw lots of eels, stingrays, starfish and various fish.
10/10 for Scott and the team, they are truly amazing, putting in so much effort to ensure that our experience was enjoyable. They even took us on a boat tour along the shore to finish off our dive.
7/10 for the diving/snorkelling experience, just based on the bad vis and few things we saw. BUT safety, experience, and everything else was perfect.

My daughter booked a stay for us in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica, and as a scuba diver, I feel no vacation is complete without exploring the underwater world in that location, providing the waters are clear and warm. Sirenas was a perfect solution for a day’s outing on the water. We enjoyed a private I went scuba diving with the dive master who served as an underwater guide pointing out indigenous marine life I might have missed. Meanwhile, the dive instructor snorkeled with my daughter and two grandchildren, one of whom is not a skilled swimmer. He ensured their safety so I didn’t have to worry about them as I enjoyed my scuba dive. They picked us up in the morning at a nearby beach, provided snacks between dives and took us to a private island to enjoy lunch and let the kids splash around the beach. It was a wonderful , customized experience. I highly recommend Sirenas for a personalized, customized scuba or snorkeling adventure in Costa Rica.

My husband and I went on a 3-dive trip in April 2021 from Coco Beach. We dove with Scott, who was just phenomenal. He's a very experienced diver and superb communicator. It had been a while since our last dives and Scott really helped get us prepped and informed. I can't say enough about his patience and genuine kindness. After the first 2 dives, I has having trouble with my ear clearing so I remained on the boat while my husband, who is much more experienced than I am, dove with Scott. Those boys had a fantastic time! Just goes to illustrate that Scott can adapt to beginner level or experienced with ease. We had an interval on a nice beach where we ate sandwiches and were entertained by a coati. The areas we dove included Monkeyhead and a boat wreck. This is a smaller operation but clearly the divers are skilled and helpful. We were very pleased with the equipment and sweet boat crew also. Thanks, Sirenas!

Spent a week in Playa Hermosa and did 4 days of great scuba and surf trips with Sirenas. I was the only guest on one day of diving and the surf day and there was only one additional guest on the other two days of diving. Scott was upfront about my option to have a private outing all 4 days but I opted in to have an additional experienced diver join. Scott made sure our skill levels (and air consumption) were comparable. Scott is a real pleasure to dive with, and was very accommodating. The boat was able to pick me up from the beach in front of my hotel. All the dives were in interesting locations, and Scott was able to help identify the highlights of the sea life. The day we went to the Bat Islands, Roy filled in for Scott and was also a great dive guide. The surface intervals were spent on isolated beaches hanging out or exploring the beach, or touring the coastline from the boat. The surf day was also fun, getting to check out Ollie's and Witch's Rock. The boat captain Santos was also very helpful and worked hard to ensure everything was prepared for the day. The operation felt very smooth and safe. I would certainly dive with them again!

We had a great experience with Scott and the Sirenas team over the Christmas holidays!
Our group had a variety of experience levels from Open Water (~10 dives) to Dive Master. Scott and his team did a phenomenal job making sure that everyone felt safe, comfortable, and got the most out of their dive experience. Not to mention, they took us to some amazing secluded beaches during the surface intervals.
If you are going to Costa Rica and want to ensure you are diving with a professional who prioritizes safety, Scott is your guy. He is also incredibly quick to respond to emails, which makes planning easy.

10/10 This is such an amazing team to dive with. The intimate experience, skill, knowledge they offer is extraordinary. Prior to diving we met with Scott to review our wishes & needs. At this time he offered to take our equipment to ensure it was checked prior to our first dive and subsequently before & after each day of diving. It was wonderful to have someone care for all the gear, including wetsuits. We literally just had to show up, everything else was looked after by Scott & Crew.
We visited Costa Rica Nov25-Dec 6th and dove for five days. The crew took us to many memorable dive sites near Playa Coco, and Catalina Islands including Monkey Rock, Elephant, Punta Gorda, Buenas Tardes, Tortuga etc.
The fish were plentiful, and we saw Rays,Sharks,Eels, Turtles, Dolphin, Starfish, Puffer, Angel, Parrot, Golby, Blenny, Wrasse,Tuna, Jack, Butterfly, Rock, Nudibranch, Conch, +++++.
For me this was a real special trip. I had a bad experience in Maui, I was one dive away from completing my open water certification and almost gave up diving. My husband even admitted he was concerned I would not continue to dive. I took lessons back in Winnipeg and with the skill, and patience of Scott & Roy I was able to get certified as an open water diver. With the help of these amazing individuals, the support of my husband, encouragement of our friends that accompanied us on this trip I learned to love the sport!
Speaking from experience I can’t emphasize enough how important the crew you hire is to make you feel secure, safe, teach & review the skills to ensure you have mastered & understood what is required to have a fun & safe dive.
Scott & Roy shared leading the dives, being fairly new to the sport I naturally stayed close to Roy. He had the biggest knife :)
While diving captain Santos watched for bubbles and the boat was easily accessible as soon as we surfaced. During our dive intervals Santos navigated the waters like a pro and took us to many amazing beaches. We will be back! Thank you for making this a great experience for us all. Pura Vida!

Absolutely an amazing experience! My two buddies finish there open water certifications with Sirenas Diving. They brought us to the perfect sites for beginners and learning. The execution of each dive felt very safe and efficient. Although I missed out on diving due to congestion, our boat crew owner Scott took me snorkeling nearby the site. Saw tons of awesome creatures in the nursery rocks. I wouldn’t recommend going with any other diving crew. I can’t wait for the next trip!

Hello, my boyfriend and I will be in Guanacaste all day July 28 & 29th. We are both seasoned divers with most of our experience being throughout the Caribbean. He is also an avid fisherman and wants to go after marlin and sailfish. Would it be possible to combine both of these sports into one day with you? We would not be bringing any of our dive equipment with us so would need to rent. Do you have nitrox available? What is the water temp and visibility expected to be like in late July please? Thank you.
Written 28 June 2019
They offer combined diving and fishing tours. Unsure what kind of fish you catch though. Nitrox is limited availability in the area. Water temp in the summer is 78-80F with thermoclines. I wear a 3mm there.
General visibility is 30 to 60ft

Do you do day Scuba dive boat pickups from the Riu Guanacaste hotel?
Written 12 June 2018
Yes, we can arrange transportation from RIU hotels to Playa del Coco and depending on how many divers there are and the weather conditions...we may be able to pick you up from the beach of RIU hotels.
Written 14 September 2018
How experienced are the instructors/divemasters? Have most of them been working a few years in Costa Rica?
Written 3 October 2017
On most dives, I personally guide or teach. I have been diving and working in this area since 1998. On the occasions I have to hire another divemaster or instructor...I only use people I know and trust.
Hope to dive with you soon!

Hello, I am arriving in Costa Rica for a week from the 6th September. I am an PADI open water diving instructor. I would like to dive Bat and Catalina Islands. I am staying at the Occidental Allegro, Papgayo. Could you tell me if you are diving the Islands that week and what the cost would be, do you pick up from this area or would I need to arrange transport. Thank you.

Written 25 July 2015
Hola David
Thank you for contacting Sirenas Diving Costa Rica. We are PADI affiliated and have been diving in this area for almost 20 years. We no longer have a physical office...our office is the internet and our boat. Our boat is moored in the Playa del Coco bay, about a 30 minute boat ride from Allegro Papagayo or a 60 minute drive by car.
If you don't have a car, we can arrange transportation at a discounted rate $100 round trip per day. Weather permitting we will pick you up by boat. But of course is is always very nice and convenient to have your own car.
September is a nice time of year to dive in this area. We have space during the time you mentioned. Here is some more information about the diving in our area, as well as information about what dive trips we offer and our prices.
Let me know if you have any questions or would like to make a reservation...we fill up fast.
The visibility here in Costa Rica is surprising! It ranges between 20 to 50 feet, changing every day —sometimes on every dive! This range in visibility is due to the plankton rich waters we have, which is the reason we have such a variety of marine life, from the very small, to the very large. We commonly see huge schools of fish, eagle rays, southern sting rays, white-tip reef sharks, many species of moray eels and puffers, seahorses, turtles, nudibranchs, and much more.
We have 10 different local dive sites that we choose from, with depths ranging between 30 and 80 feet, most of the sites can accommodate different levels of experience and certification levels. We do multilevel dives, starting off shallow, going down to our max depth and then coming up shallow again. Most of our marine life is seen between 20 and 60 feet. We like small personalized groups so our ratio is one PADI professional for every 4-5 certified divers. Snorkelers are also welcome at the local dive sites for $50 per person (snorkel guide is provided for two or more snorkelers.)
We offer several different dive trip options. These include morning trips out to local dive sites, as well as the Catalina and Bat Islands (weather, availability and diver experience depending), and night dives.
The local morning two tank dive trip departs at 8:30am and is usually back at around 12pm. This trip costs $100 per person plus $25 for equipment, the price includes tanks, weights, water and snacks and a PADI professional to guide you around the dive sites (min 2). There is also an option to do a third tank, if you wish, for $50 (includes lunch). Nitrox is available with a 24 hour notice for an additional $15 per tank.
Catalina Island is about a 30-60 minute boat ride south, departure time is at 8:00 AM, and we return at around 1:00pm. Due to the location of these islands (close to shore, yet surrounded by deep area and not protected by bays), they are a favorite hang out spot for manta rays, as well as many other pelagic and large fish. The price is $135 + equipment and includes two guided dives, water and snacks. Catalina Islands is an advanced dive site, so a local day of diving is required before signing up and we require a minimum of 4 qualified divers for this trip. A third tank is available for $60 (includes lunch)
Bat Islands is about a 60-90 minute boat ride north, so departure time is at7am, this may change to earlier, depending on weather. We are usually back at around 2:00 pm. These islands are a marine reserve located in the Santa Rosa National park. The waters surrounding here are also quite deep and current is constantly dragging up nutrients from the bottom, which attracts small (and large) plankton eating fish, which in turn brings in larger fish that prey on them. Therefore, you have a good chance of seeing a large variety of marine life, including bull sharks, manta rays and thousands of schooling fish. The trip to Bat islands costs $185 + equipment. This price includes the National Park fee and lunch. The Bat Islands is an advanced dive site, so a local day of diving is required before signing up and we require a minimum of 4 qualified divers for this trip. A third tank is available for $60. Main sites are Big Scare, Los Arcos, and Black Rock. The best time of year to have a chance to visit Bats is from May through September.
I hope this covered all of your questions. Please let me know if you have any more questions or if you would like to make a reservation, we fill up fast.
