Tio Leo was the most knowledgeable person I have met relative to creating ecosystems that natural enable the creation of coffee. Truly remarkable.
His knowledge of the history of coffee in the world as well as its journey to Costa Rica helped us better understand coffee as a whole. As a coffee person, it was wonderful to get the first hand experience. The food served to us during the tour, fried plantains with star fruit juice, the empanadas we made with their guidance, grinding cocoa beans into grounds to make Chocolate milk, then to make chocolate nibs and finally combined with coffee to make an exfoliant rub was fantastic! Truly using all parts of the plants in a sustainable way. Highly recommended!!!

My parents recommended this tour to my boyfriend and I. We drove 1.5 hours to get to Tio Leo and I can say it was 1000% the highlight of my trip to Costa Rica. Our tour was at 3pm - it was nice because it wasn’t too hot. Valeria and Mirna were amazing. We walked through Tio Leo’s growing area where we learned about all the plants and vegetables that they farm. Valeria answered all my questions and Mirna made the most incredible empanadas. I would highly recommend this tour. We also learned about the importance of coffee in Costa Rica, how they make it at Tio Leo from Tio Leo himself, on top of learning about sugar cane and traditions in Costa Rica. It was like 10 experiences in a couple hours - amazing. THANK YOU!

This was my favorite part of my trip! My friends and I visited Tamarindo last week (December 27-January 2nd) and Tio Leo’s coffee tour was the highlight of our trip! He is SO knowledgeable about coffee, agriculture, fruits, history… the list goes on. We started the tour with a history lesson on coffee which was so impressive. We then walked through his garden area, where he has all kinds of plants, fruits and trees. We got to try so many different types of juices and fruits. His homemade yuca was the BEST. We then got to make empanadas, chocolate and last but not least try some of his famous coffee. It was such a blast and he was so funny and the staff was great. I highly recommend booking this tour if you find yourself in the Tamarindo area!

This was more than just a coffee tour! We learned and experienced so much more than coffee. We learned about the coffee bean and plant, many fruit and herb trees, made a homemade empanada, tasted fresh, pure cocoa and got a cocoa exfoliating scrub on my arms and hands! Tio Leo made us feel like family and everyone was super friendly. We spent 3 hours here and enjoyed every minute! Definitely recommend this experience!

This tour was the highlight of my trip in Costa Rica. It's located just a few minutes away from the airport which is perfect. Tio Leo and his wonderful wife were so welcoming to my friends and I that they felt like family. They are passionate not only about growing and producing amazing coffee but in helping their community.

This is more than a coffee tour and I would recommend they change the name of the tour. The value is amazing. We got a tour of all of their fruit trees, cashew trees, cocoa tree, cinnamon tree, etc. We had plantain chips as a snack, got to have a cooking class where we made empanadas from scratch, chocolate milk, we also crushed sugar cane with lime and drank it with rum (SO good), and even got to do a body scrub on our arms with the grinded chocolate. It was such an awesome 3 hour tour. Their coffee was also smooth. I wish they shipped to Canada but they don't right now.

I highly recommend this place!! I can see Tio Leo really taking off globally with his business. So happy to have met them and I hope to come back again.

MUST GO! Tio Leo is the Willy wonka of all things coffee & chocolate. This tour exceeded my expectations. Tio Leo first explains the history of coffee and walks you through the plantation explaining the ins and outs of the coffee plants and the other trees surrounding them that create a well oiled ecosystem for the production of the coffee. After this, prepare for tons of hands on fun like empanada making, crushing cocoa beans, making fresh chocolate milk, chocolate and sugar body scrub, squeezing sugar cane and finally ending with a presentation of the roasting process. You can opt in for $6 lunch after the tour (you should) which was fantastic. Thank you tio & crew!

My husband and I had the best time at Cafe Tio Leo! Our tour guide, Valeria, was very knowledgable and enjoyable to listen to and spend time with. Not only do you learn about coffee (and pick some too!), you also learn about all different kinds of fruits, cacao, spices, and sugar cane that are growing on the property. One of the highlights was learning how to make traditional Costa Rican empanadas. Very much an all around cultural experience that I will not forget! Highly recommend.

Tio Leo tour was outstanding and very educational. If you love coffee and/or chocolate not to be missed. Leo brings his passion for growing coffee and defying the skeptics about his methods to produce an amazingly smooth coffee.

The 3 hour tour includes looking at the plants at this location including fruit plants, roasting coffee, sampling his chocolate milk, making empanadas and watching the coffee roasting process. Leo is very engaging and funny.

Take the tour it is flavorfully done!
