Venado caverns are a fun and exciting distraction from hiking the Costa Rican rainforest surrounding the Arenal volcano. Of course you are going to get wet and you can't be too squeamish about tight spaces. One of the highlights of my entire trip was getting to see a Glass Treefrog near the mouth of Venado caves. I have seen treefrogs... More

We were traveling Costa Rica during the slow season and stumbled across the Venado caves, which turned out to be one of the cheapest attractions, as well as the most rewarding! Wear old clothes, and bring an extra set to change into afterwards. They have very clean shower houses and a pool to cool off in! I would also highly... More

This is one of the best decisions we made……drove 2 hours to check the caves out and it was the best time and money spent!! We also paid extra for the photo CD which our camera could never capture the images they got and happy to have the memories :) The guides were fun, encouraging you to test yourself and... More

My husband and I toured this cave 3 years, and since then we have traveled to many caves throughout the world, and both agreed this cave is our favorite! (Keeping in mind that my husband is a trooper and does not enjoy tight spaces!) So we traveled back and we were not disappointed!! Our guide Pica (Jose) was incredible and... More

I stopped my the Venado caves on my way to the west coast and I am glad I took the detour. The tour was a lot of fun and a good workout as well. The guide was very knowledgeable and took the time to show me everything even though I was a solo tourist. You will get wet and I... More

This was an awesome experience of exploring a cave system. The ride is a bit out the way and the road can be bumpy, but totally worth it! The total cost, including pictures with a professional, is a fraction of the price when you drive on your own. I think of the many things I did in Costa Rica, this... More

This was the highlight of our Costa Rican adventure. We went in the caves with myself, husband and 3 boys (8,10,13). It was completely amazing. Saw scorpion spiders, crabs, bats, etc. First, wear old clothes that you don't mind getting wet and dirty. You will be soaked. Also, wear water shoes of some sort. They will give you boots if... These caves are very cool, and you get to really experience them in a way that you don't get to experience a lot of caves in the US -- nothing is roped off, and it can't be, because you have to crawl and climb and squeeze through holes to get though the cave! Definitely plan to get wet and bring... More

We loved this tour and kept thinking about it the rest of our trip to Costa Rica. We booked through a travel agency and were planning on going to Rio Celeste but due to heavy rain that changed the water brown, had to change plans. We were definitely bummed at first and I was a bit skeptical since I am... More
