This is a nice place to walk (hiking) if you don't have anything else to do. From my and other colleagues experience most likely 80% time is dense fog and you cannot see anything. The walk though trough forest is nice. I recommend it only...More

Even though it was "green season", we were able to view the volcano last week. Amazing and beautiful! The walkway to the overlook is paved and easy to navigate. It's large enough to accommodate huge crowds and it's easy to snag a spot for a...More

Clouds were low when we went but the short trip from San Jose was still fun. The trails were a good walk and it seemed like we were walking through Jurassic Park. Our son had been there before when it was really clear and got...More

You will have fun either way. If it is sunny a good view of the volcano. If it is raining a good rain forest hike. You will see good flora and fauna. Make sure you have somebody who can explain them better. We had a...More

The Poas Volcano was the first stop of many on our all-day tour. After a long trek up to the national park, our van parked in a small parking lot outside the gift shop and cafe. The weather was particularly bad. Cold rain beat down...More

Our tip up the mountain was shrouded in fog and upon our arrival it was raining lightly and a cold breeze was blowing. When we stepped out of our tour bus we had just about given up hope of seeing anything of the volcano. Amazingly,...More

Unfortunately, weather plays a big part in visiting Poas. But even with rain and cloud cover we were happy to be there. The volcano is surrounded by wonderful trails boardered by fantastic trees, ferns and vines. Go with the attitude to enjoy whatever you can...More

It is a very nice place, but I gave only 3 stars because of the entry free, which is ridiculously expensive for a place you visit in 2 hours. Bring your own food since there are only snacks available, and for what they charge for...More

The park itself is beautiful and it was nice watching the hummingbirds and examining the amazing flora in the area, but the fog was so dense we couldn't see the volcano at all. I guess there's no telling what the weather will bring, but if...More

The best time to view the volcano is dry the dry season. Between late February through June. We went in late March, and it was perfect. Good Luck.

We visited in March and the volcano became active a couple of weeks later. It must be closed due to possible volcanic activity.
