If you are lucky you can see it through the clouds. It is closed due to activity. Beautiful landscape scenes during the drive into the area so it would not be a total loss. Waterfalls and lush forests abound in the area. Enjoy your trip

We couldn't drive up to the volcano today because it has been closed for about a year due to volcanic activity. We were told it may open in the next couple of months. Be sure to check whether it is open to save yourself a...More

A short ride from downtown San Jose, highly recommended going in the morning to avoid getting a cloudy view. Admission is based by vehicle. There are a few hiking trails (moderately easy to easy) that we went on, took us a good 2-3 hours!

We were very excited to visit a volcano in Costa Rica, however the entry fee was quite expensive for a short walk to look at a crater (15 USD per person), and the day we went it was foggy and you could barely see. The...More

The Poas volcano has been closed for over a year but the website does not tell you! Still worth it to drive up the mountain, lots of other things to do and it’s beautiful up here!

The park is closed to visitors due to an eruption last year which damaged the infrastructure around the volcano. We were with a bird watching group and the security guard gave us permission to walk along one of the lower paths for 45 minutes only,...More

The volcano is still closed and so is parts of 146. I feel sorry for the businesses in the area because they are definitely suffering from this closure.

Beautiful drive up, but they had the road blocked 2 km from the parking lot, due to volcanic activity. I guess it is a volcano, but there could have easily been a sign at the bottom of the road. Bummerrrrr.

I would pass on stopping here and since it's not free, I am inclined to recommend that you put that money towards the La Paz waterfalls as you will have a better experience there. Not to detract anything about the value of culture, history and...More
