Beautiful lake in the upper northwest part of Costa Rica. We didn't stop but it was pretty. We were told it's popular with locals to fish there but the acid rain because it is very close to a volcano has messed the fishing up.

We were able to view Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal during a ziplining tour. Lake Arenal is beautiful and serene with the imposing Arenal Volcano rising up in the background. These two features framed our tour and created a sense of serenity when going about...More

The lake is actually artificial but you can't tell because of the sheer size of it. We passed through to make our way to Monteverde and took a water taxi. At the end of our boat ride we made about a five minute trek up...More

We drove from Playa Flamingo to Arenal. We drove along the lake for several miles and the views were breathtaking. There were a number of spots to take pictures as well.

Rule of thumb with the weather there is: Jan-April - dry. May - July - could rain every day for short period of time. We did some trekking around volcano therefore it could be hot and humid in the summer. Then Aug - Dec - it... More

I would also say Nuevo Arenal. We stayed in Tilaran which was nice (and best for playing tennis) but most of the sight seeing is closer to La Fortuna and the drive from Tilaran to even Nuevo Arenal is windy twisty roads... More
