About
"Pudong, in its 13-year history, has surprisingly progressed in its economic strength and its urban development. This 556-sqaure-kilometer farmland 13 years ago is well on its way toward a modern metropolis. As the epitome of Shanghai' modernization and the symbol of China's reform and opening up drive, Pudong has become an ideal land for global investors."

Top ways to experience Pudong New Area
The area
Neighbourhood: Century Park
Shanghai residents see Pudong’s suburbs as the place that grown-ups retreat to when they’re ready to settle down and stop living in the cramped confines of a refurbished lanehouse. The areas around Century Park are some of the most desirable as they are in close proximity to the Metro Lines, granting easy access to the heart of Puxi. The park itself is a huge draw, it’s one of Shanghai’s biggest and there are sports fields tucked into one of its corners, but five-star hotels, museums and great malls make life in the Century Park area easy for the homesick foreigner. And if living in a Western bubble in China isn’t your thing, there is plenty of local flavor to be had in between the major development. Some of Lujiazui’s futurism can also be seen in buildings and sculptures throughout the neighborhood as well.
How to get there
- Middle Yanggao Road • 7 min walk

As we took the City bus service, we could have a nice view of the amazing modern buildings in this area. The tall skycrappers were a marvel.
We first got here by the metro and got off at Luijiazui station. After that a short walk away is the Pearl Tower where we saw the Hop-On-Hop-Off city tour bus service center. We got one day passes and took the bus which was a good effecient way to tour this area and the rest of the city.

I lived in Pudong for over ten years. Pudong was my home for almost a decade. I love Pudong. It's new, it's beautiful and its big. Pudong is better for family. It's less crowded, more space and more green. Lujiazui Financial Center is the center of Pudong. But Pudong is mostly residential. My most favorite area is Jinqiao. This is the area, we lived in for over ten years. Pudong is full of my family stories. My son was born in Jinqiao and my seven year old daughter was born next to the China Art Museum (2010 Shanghai Expo: China Pavilion). But Pudong was very different just few years ago. Change, change and change. Construction after construction, endless construction. I saw the groundbreaking of Shanghai Tower from my Jinmao Tower Gym. I also saw the construction of Shanghai Disney Resort from far away. And I still remember the first time, when I came to China with an one month Visa. It was Pudong International Airport in Shanghai. That one month became over ten years. My ten years Visa also expired just few weeks ago. And I am still here. Unbelievable. It was not my dream. I lost many things. But I also found many things. This is my life.

As you enter Pudong through tunnel , amazing skyscrapers welcome you. Elevated walkways connect almost all the buildings which represents modern China. Many eating joints , shopping malls and offices are there. Disney store creats atmosphere of Disneyland. You can spend hours in Pudong.

It was good to have a coach tour around this area, just to see the varied buildings. A different view with every turn.

I attended a Tourism Fair and it was my first time in this city. We were in a skyscraper and went with the lift to the 81st floor. You can see the city and the river. Moreover at night the views were astonishing. It was just a 3 days trip but I think Shanghai is the financial capital city of China and for a foreign visitor was easy to use the public transport. Very good restaurants variety.

I last visited Shanghai in 2007 when Pudong's building boom was in a fairly infant phase. The 1994 Oriental Pearl Tower really stood out, because of its shape, on the skyline, and still does, but many of the contributors to the huge cluster of modern skyscrapers had yet to go up. I mostly remember lots of construction happening on the east side of the Huangpu River when I walked along the west side and wondered what the final configuration would be.
Now I know. The current skyline has become a symbol for modern Shanghai and essentially shows off Lujiazu, the finance and trade zone along Century Avenue. Stunners include Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center and Shanghai Tower, which boasts the world's highest observation deck.
At night, the view of the skyline is spectacular from the Bund, where the famous colonial-era buildings stand. The structures show off different colors, with some presenting light shows that reflect in the river. Sightseeing boats cruise along the water, giving photo ops from a different angle.
During the day, observation decks in some of the buildings provide a panorama of the Bund, and a lovely river promenade is in place. Visitors can easily get to the Pudong area of Shanghai via metro or cab. But my favorite transport mode continues to be a ferry.

Can you please give the route of the metro from the airport to the bund? As well as from the airport to the Disneyland. Thank you.

Hi there,
Its fairly easy to get from the Airport to the Bund area. No Trains go to the Bund but stop about 1.5 K's and you walk down the Mall. From the Airport take the express (or line 2 all the way). It stops and you get off the express and go to the station below and transfer to where your accommodation is or if going to the Bund then go to Peoples Square. From there walk straight through the Mall to the Bund.
To Disneyland its a direct train ride. You get onto Metro line 11 and take it to the end. Simple. Its a 500 metre walk from there. Very easy. Taxi will cost about $20 US.

Hi. I have a short stopover in Pudong Airport on1st Nov, arriving 7.05 and departing 11.50, so will have approx. 3.5 hours available to leave the airport and see some of Pudong. Any suggestions about things that are worth seeing locally within this timeframe, which are easy to access from the airport. I am happy to walk! Thanks, Jenny

I would agree with the others, but if you feel adventurous...
If you need to go through custom, either incoming or outgoing, that's a definite not enough time. If not, the fastest way to get out of the airport towards the city is to use Maglev. It will take around 7 min from the airport to Longyang road station (direct non-stop, exclude walking time to station and waiting time for the train - every 20 min). Exit the station, walk to line 2 subway station, get a ticket to Lujiazui station. At this location, you can find Shanghai business district, with some of the tallest building in China / Asia, take pictures, then quickly go back to the airport. You can search internet for details, but beware your access to google in Shanghai may be restricted (although recently my phone from USA can access it). Good luck and enjoy the trip.

I've been to a beautiful park in this area 2 years ago but can't remember the name of it. It was next to the water and had acres of flowers and trees. Very beautiful. The name started with a "J" I believe.
