This is lovely but so crowded on a beautiful sunny Sunday - we were shuffling along as the streets were so busy. Maybe a weekday would be easier to see and experience this attraction.

A real oasis of tradition and tranquility within the surrounding modern city. A wide array of shops offering all kind of traditional crafts and delicacies that you wont find at the airport or modern shopping malls. There's peaceful park-like areas where you can just stroll...More

Fun and entertaining place to walk around. Very good, ample shops for shopping for gifts to take back home. Can be quite crowded, but that's part of the fun. Great photo op to capture old, classic Chinese architecture.

Real contrast to the financial district. Smaller area than we’d expected, but well worth a trip. We travelled by metro, but seemed to be on the route of the hop on hop off tourist bus as well.

Ok so the "old town" of Shanghai is not that old at all, as I believe it was all built 20 years ago. It was full of tacky souvenir shops and eateries which did not look that pleasant. Plus the amount of people spitting in...More

The restoration in this area is magnificent. Many old structures exist in their historical glory. Lovely buildings, ponds and gardens. How grand it must have been. Now of course, mostly shops and places to eat. Awesome selections. Great place to wander about for a few...More

Shanghai’s original walls live on in the curve of the
streets that serve as the border to the old city. An
aerial view shows a clear circular outline and parts
of the original wall are preserved as monuments to the
ancient past. The main tourist attraction of Yuyuan
(which means Yu garden, though it is often redundantly
referred to as Yuyuan Garden) draws hordes of tourists
every day, but wandering the streets around the
