Easy to find from the metro and a hidden gem. Small entrance fee and very nice temple inside. Don't miss the chance to hand feed the fish which is fun. Nearest metro is line 7 Tilanqiao.

This temple is close to the cruise ship terminal and Bund area and yet finds itself often overlooked and unmentioned. And that's a shame because it's absolutely beautiful and peaceful inside. Get a taxi driver to drive you to the front gate, find the small...More

Going back from the Shanghai Jewish refugee museum, we ran into this great nun Buddhist temple by chance. Very close to Tilanqiao metro station on line 12. 5 RMB entrance fee.

We had a great visit to this temple and enjoyed a vegetarian meal in their restaurant. The grounds are also very nice and seem more pristine since this temple is not on the typical tourist routes. Their garden is immaculate and the fish in the...More

...which I much enjoyed! I had no idea this place existed but happened to notice the grand front gates when leaving the Jewish Refugee Museum down the road. Inside is very beautiful and peaceful. A hidden gem of a temple!

A newer, but beautiful temple dedicated to the goddess of the sea. The carvings and statues are very vivid and the temple complex is very peaceful. Same subway stop and close to the Jewish Refugee Museum.

Well preserved. Off the beaten path. Be aware, if you are planning to take the Hop on Hop Off bus to beget there, they have discontinued that stop, even though it is still on their guide.

Most travelers who come to Tilanqiao Station are visiting the Shanghai's Jewish Refugees Museum and its surrounding neighborhood, where once the refugee camp and other infrastructure once stood. Nevertheless, it would be an omission no to visit this quiet Temple and Nunnery. It is located...More

I can't believe I am writing the first review of this lovely temple! I saw just it's name mentioned in one guidebook and nothing more. It is easy to access from the Dalian Road Metro stop if you walk along the wall of Tilanqiao Prison....More

History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but
Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood.
Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during
the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can
still be found in buildings and park monuments.
Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood
throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without
taking you too far away from the city center. Some of
