Unforgettable experience, the atmosphere is phenomenal, lots of shops and restaurants, the hard part is not stopping at all. Since the route is outside, it is advisable to go when it is not raining. But if it happens, there are plenty of places to take shelter, to taste unique delicacies for example.

If you don’t like crowds - DO NOT VISIT, but it is a wonderful mix of all types with a great vibe. Well worth visiting, but find a spot to sit amd watch the crowds hussle through. Many interesting little shops, but quite touristy. A stop at the famous Dumpling shop is a must.

Kids woke up late - tired from the whole day at Disneyland the day prior. Got freshly steamed Xiaolong Bao (steamed dumplings) from the market next to our residence for breakfast and decided to walk a general direction towars Yu Yuan gardens. Quite easy to navigate and we got here in about 20mins. Pretty much a touristy shopping area selling traditional stuff. Quite a few snacks and eats to try in this area and quite a few souvenior stuffs. Coming from asia myself, their a many cheaper places to buy the stuff. But, a nice place to just walk and shoot photos.

Old Street District in Shanghai is very beautiful, rather than the Shanghai you've seen so far, this is a bit of true China. There is a museum which was one of the first builded temples in Shanghai.

There are a lot of shops where you can get your Haggling XP up. A couple of tips here, don't buy SD-cards, the seem so so so SO real but they are not. I bought one and broke after two times using it.

Then another VERY IMPORTANT TIP, there is a metro station close to Old Street called Yuyuan Garden. This is an important meeting point of tourists who are coming from Old Street. There is a Chinese guy and a little Chinese Girl whom speak very good english. They will ask you to take them a picture and there it all starts. They will ask were you come from, say an easy phrase in your home language and start a whole conversation with you. They will tell you that there is a CHINESE TEA FESTIVAL not so far from here. Every time they will tell a different story about them, one time they are teachers, one time they are a couple, one time there are brothers.

Don't take it, they will bring you to three roads further and let you enter in a room where teas are served at VERY HIGH PRICES !! I still remember you had to take 6 teas of each 58 RMB, so in total 360 RMB per person, which is an awful lot of money for them. I hope this is useful to you guys because I've had this situation and they really play it very well, specially cause they speak English so well, until you get in this room, which everyone expects a tea festival to be something big OUTSIDE. Ah and they will also ask you 6 times if you can speak Chinese just to be sure that they can speak with each other without you understanding.

But apart of this, Shanghai's very nice and you have to enjoy every bit of it !! ^^

I went to Yuyuan old street with some friends last week. The view at night was quite spectacular with lights on and the hustle bustle adds to experience of visiting something truly chinese. For those who wished to get some souvenirs, I would not recommend getting them here as prices were really quite high. Sales persons are quite rude and brash. They are above scolding you or even insult if you don't buy their goods. We bought some chinese snacks from one of the shop in very nice packaging. I thought that it would make a nice present for people back home. Upon arrival in France, I was horrified to find that the goods have all passed their "best by dates"!!!!! I was really quite upset by this. They managed to cover the best by dates of their snacks by packaging them in larger flowery bags so the dates are not visible from outside. So be careful when buying goods especially snacks etc. Look carefully at the expiry dates. Those vendors were really unscrupulous. Still, it was a good experience and worth a visit.

I have traveled the world on my own and consider myself an experienced and savy traveler but I got sucked into this scam. I was approached twice on Old Street in one day, then again twice next day but the only time I actually got sucked in was just off the Bund. However, my caution goes to everyone in the high profile tourist areas.

They target westerners, likely those travelling alone. We get sucked in because they are friendly, non threatening and cheerful. It starts with two young people or a family asking you to take their photo...so of course you stop and take their photo. Then when you walk over to return the camera, they engage you in conversation (in excellent English) ..where are you from, where have you been in China. They tell you they also are traveling and have been some of the places you have been, they tell you how fortunate you are that you are from a country that allows you the freedom to experience the world, they commented on my blonde hair, blue eyes, white skin...all complementary, cheerful and chatty. They walked with me a bit and then said they were attending a cultural event, why didn't I join them. Because I liked these girls (who said they were from a smaller town but in Shanghai studying English) I went with them. We were walking to this "event" only a few blocks away and there was one girl on one side and another on the other side...chatting, chatting chatting about everything. I was so focused on listening to them I wasn't really paying attention to what we were doing. This was all good until we walked into a small building, into a smaller room and sat down. At that moment I thought.."opps, maybe should not be here". We were apparently there for a tea ceremony and to try all these various teas of China. They handed me a menu with prices (of course in Chinese) and said something about..drink a few teas and the room is free. As we tried teas..I was thinking...I hope the water is purified, its really hot in here..I wonder if these cups were sterilized etc. So we kept drinking tea, they kept chatting and chatting. Then the girls said I could purchase some tea..so I picked one. Then the bill came...980 RB which is about $150 Dollars. WOW- I didn't have enough money to pay this so they suggested we go to the ATM- but I didn't have an ATM card. These girls spent a lot of time discussing options for paying the whole 980 RB when I only had 700 RB with me. They would not take a credit card so I got away with paying 700 RB, about $115. This whole thing could have gone all kinds of bad..but ended up costing me $115 for 50 grams of tea and a travel experience to share. Beware of this scam..I was amazed that I got sucked in and it could have ended up even worse than having 50 grams of very expensive tea.

This is the Chinatown of Shanghai as urban renewal is changing the look of the city. The government has kept this area looking like the past and it is full of people visiting and shopping .
