We headed to the Cotton Club without checking anything online. Sadly, when we arrived we learned the Cotton Club had closed. Through further research, we learned the last performance was on March 25, 2017. There is some speculation the club would reopen in a new...More

Until being shut down in late March this venue was the best location to hear live music. The house band were second to none. I, and many others, eagerly await the rebirth of the Cotton Club in a new location.

Just the way you want it. Full house but not crowdy. Musicians walking in and out to do their gig. Tuesday night jam session. No covercharge. Great bassplayer who stays on the background. Who is going to pursuade him to do a bass solo ?

Great blues night, good atmosphere, good music and great place to hear and see a proper band and not the semi-canned music you get in most bars in Shanghai. Went with a couple of friends and five hours just vanished!!

Wonderful way to top off the evening with original music! Quite a few guest artists playing different guitars! This place is cozy and intimate! A varied crowd of both younger and older patrons! Drinks are pricey, but there is no cover!

Music and venue is great. Well worth a visit. Drinks pricy but you're paying for the music. However, waiters and bartenders could really do with cracking the occasional smile - drag the place down.

Like most of the reviewers, I agree about the drinks. I had two glasses of beer 60 RMB (9.50 USD) each one draft one bottle. Both tasted like dog urine cut with kerosene. My wife had two drinks that were so-so for about 80 RMB...More

Friendly atmosphere where you can meet locals and expats. Packed and smoky with little room to dance, but it's possible if you want to start the action.

This jazz club is very cosy with a lot of international people! It resembles a bit of an Irish pub with a stage for gigs. The music is very good but the audience tends to be on the older side, not many people younger than...More

Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly
governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French
Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that
is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While
it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will
sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their
mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area
seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet,
