I never had a chance to visit Jing'an temple when I lived in Shanghai despite walking by it on several ocassions. On a recent visit, I was early for a meeting and the temple was right across the street so I went over.

Amazing temple, so calming and peaceful. I spent half of my Sunday there, just watching people doing their Sunday routine< Beautiful architecture and plenty of restaurants around. A place to rest and reflect in the middle of a crazy city of Shanghai.
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same
quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
