This museum is a long way from anywhere in Shanghai, but if you are interested in ships or naval history, this place is for you! The centerpiece is the large junk, but there are lots of other historical and contemporary marine/ship exhibits. The museum itself is another of Shanghai's architectural beauties. It's about a 20 minute walk or a 5... More

Oh how I wish I had visited on a beautiful blue sky kinda day - but it was blustery and cool and overcast and I totally missed the water view of the building. Nonetheless despite the loss of pictures of the architecture of this building against a blue sky it is the inside exhibits worth the visit. The actual Chinese... More

The China Maritime Museum at Dishui Lake is very cool; Excellent actually. There are many exhibitions ranging from ancient relics to modern containerships. There are many, many scale models of ships to enjoy and there also is a full scale replica of a Ming Dynasty merchant junk boat which you can walk on the deck. You can stroll around just... More

The Maritime Museum is really GOOD - range of exhibitions... do not miss the temporary gallery it had nice stuff when I was there today - including Children's Space / Playground and many interactive stations throughout the museum - FREE boat rides outside by Waterfront Promenade but it gets busy! - excellent Chinese and English info... except for some computers... It's rather far away from Shanghai city, but worthwhile. Everything is well presented, and it was not too busy when I visited, but in weekends and holidays it may be very busy, which is true for all attractions in China. I spent +2 hours in the museum, which is quite big. Unfortunately, when I was about to see the part... More

I've decided to go there using the subway - the fastest way to get there from downtown, It took me about an hour traveling from East Nanjing Rd to the last station of the subway. I've walked from the subway station to the museum. You can take a bus(fee just 2 RMB), but I've decided to walk. It was May... More

The China Maritime Museum is about one hour away from Shanghai's city center, in the south of Pudong, about a 20-30 min walk from the end of metro line 16 (Dishui Lake). We combined our tour to the beautiful lake with a visit to this museum. On two main floors you can get a great overview on the history and... More

The museum was certainly far away from the city center and everything else. But it's worth a visit if time is not a concern. There were a lot of information to absorb -- it helped that we had a guided tour. There were some hands on, experiential activities, e.g., a 3D experience inside a simulated ship, a simulator for you... More

We have been visiting the Maritime Museum with a bunch of kids and we had a good time there. Anyway do not expect too much from the museum cafe and shop, those left is rather disappointed after an one hour ride from downtown. Anyway, bring a lunchpack or go to one of the adjacent hotels.

Cool museum though may not be so informative for English speakers due to less detailed English signage. But certainly very rich in artifacts and information on Chinese maritime history. I particularly liked the huge Chinese junk they built there in the middle of the museum. The kids liked all the ship models they have there. Enjoyable day out for the... More
