This was an enjoyable half day trip into old Shanghai. Lots of traditional buildings with plenty of shops and restaurants/snacks places to visit. Just don't go there during Chinese New Year as it will be very crowded. Recommanded if you want to experience life as it was in the past in China

not so far from Shanghai Pudong Airport. 10 mins ride of Maglev train, 15 mins of subway and 5 mins of bus. it has good and ancient atmosphere, and I can try kinds of local foods there.

People who find it difficult to reach this charming town should pass their time in Shanghai. After having visited there many times I still look forward to going back. This is not like some contrived Disneyland like attraction but is still able to bring the China of the past to those who are looking for it. Go, but be prepared... More

Compared to other water towns, this one gets to the top of our list. There are maybe not so much waterways as others, but it feels pretty authentic, not as much touristically exploited. We visited at sun set and had some great photo opportunities. The main street is pretty long, takes quite some time to go from one end to... More

It sounded easy to get there as we had the metro station and expected to walk to it. We had to catch a bus and had no idea where to get off. Thanks to a kind man waiting for the same bus and who spoke some English we got there. Took us all the way there going out of his... More

While it is not the easiest place to get to, it is possible to take the main HuNan road buses and to get off close to the location and walk the last 5 minutes. It is easily accessible from the north or south entrances. The entrie area is built around a small section of river, with preserved wooden houses, a... More

Spent a lovely time here yesterday but it was freezing so dress accordingly if going in winter. Charming olde worlde town and great to visit in winter as you avoid the crowds. However, we got there quite early (9.30 am) and a lot of places weren't open so leave it till a bit later. Maybe some of them don't open... More

Don't fail to try the little riverside restaurants . The food is typical Chinese and the people in the village live a happy simple life reflected in their kind welcome of foreigners .I have to visit this place every time I go to Shaghai to remind myself how the city used to be before the mega buildings replaced most of...
