Decided to jump on the metro and go somewhere out of the busy nature of Shanghai. It took about 1.5 hours from Yuyuan Gardens where we were staying. It was quite deserted with very few people except for a couple of stalls selling food and kites. It was very tranquil and we had a lovely walk along the promenade/pathway and ended up in the Crowne Plaza at the lake where we had lovely food. Nice way to spend and a day away from the hustle and bustle, long way but worth it.

About 55-minute ride on metro line 16. Take the Dishui Lake exit to get to the lake promenade. There are a few vendors selling food, drinks and stuff.

I went morning on weekday and the area was nearly deserted. The whole area still is going through construction and there seems to be a lot more to do. So far, most of Dishui lake area is empty land or under construction.

Walked to Crown Plaza which seems to be a nice hotel. It is pretty cool looking architecture and walking around the grounds was pleasant.

There are bike rentals and you can take a short boat ride out on the lake.

Circumnavigating the lake took me about two hours. Once you go past the hotel, there are no more vendors so prepare before embarking on the journey. Worth doing if you like to walk but there's not much of anything on the other side of the lake.

Not much to see except a perfectly rounded lake about two hours away from Shanghai center. Was peaceful with very few people. Some blooming flowers added some color.

It's at least an hour down line 16 fro Longyang LU. The journey is interesting in itself, but the end point is a little bit of a non event. There are local food sellers, BBQ area and I guess you could walk around the lake. But that's it - there really is nothing else, just the view over the water. Not the most exciting trip I have done, but glad I have seen it.

No reason to visit unless you are passing by. Only good thing is you can rent a sailing dinghy and take yourself off for a sail - not cheap but glad someone is doing it. Not found that anywhere else in Shanghai.

Away from the city, nice picnic spot with barbecue ,nice breeze but don't expect too much. It's just an ordinary Big lake. Lots of people selling kite & local street food .You can take metro line 16 and stop at the end of line 16 Dishui Lake (approx 1 to 1.5 hours from the City)

This is another one of the areas near Shanghai that was being heavily developed before the pandemic and the real estate crash. But it’s become another victim of the governments lack of planning and responsibility. You will be greeted with a barren landscape of incomplete apartments and infrastructure, a few monolithic buildings like the crowne plaza, floating in a muddy lake of disappointment, and the Maritime Museum, again, isolated, miles from anywhere, full of of impressive propaganda, largely empty and likely to fall into disrepair. The Future Life Experience Centre further, around the lake, is a huge abandoned area, once promising all measure of fun for the imaginary crowds that never existed in the first place, now left to nesting birds and the eerie whistling of the wind through the rusting remnants of steel and concrete, a fitting epitaph of the twilight of another failed Chinese dynasty.

Dishui lake is the largest artificial fresh water lake in Shanghai (& China), sometimes visible during landing/takeoffs from Pudong airport. Looks like water droplet falling from the sky! Lake is 1 hour drive away and ~1.5hrs by metro Line 16. Visited already couple of times and it feels worth if you are looking for short getaway from Shanghai busy life. Currently whole lake area is very calm and serves to the different interests of people. We enjoyed the sailing at Dishui lake water sports club located east side of lake. There are accommodation options available and barbecue camping base too. Worth the visit to Dishui lake if planning for a day’s trip around Shanghai.

Dishui Lake is at the end of metro line 16, about 1 hour away from Shanghai's city center in the south of Pudong.
It is another amazing neighborhood in Shanghai which you can watch growing within months. Besides this man made lake, there is the Crowne Plaza, the China Maritime Museum, an expo center, and a couple of malls that are ready to open soon.

We spent a weekend at the lake and were really surprised how easy it is to get away from the hectic city life. Although the area was packed during the national holidays, it never felt overcrowded. Locals come to set up their tents, have a picnic, let their kites fly and enjoy the scenery.

We thought it is worth a relaxing day trip if combined with the Maritime Museum.

This is a very massive lake where the locals come to use the lake in many ways. You can hire a sailing boat, take a motorboat ride, hire a duel push bike or walk around the expansive Boardwalk.
It's not very scenic or beautiful, gardens or a little drab, but it is man made and big.
You can get the Metro out there, line 16, and the station is right on the lake.
Only go if you have a lot of time.
