Nice Place to Visit for History and Train Buffs

This is a little better than average but not quite "very good" museum. My Chinese is so-so but not up to reading most of the signage but much is self explanatory. As I... read more

While not a lot of actual trains here, the displays are excellent and very informative. Many have commented there is little English, but actually there is a free Audio Commentary available that is in really good spoken English and very informative too. Admittedly this is probably a museum for train enthusiasts, but I loved it. Went for an hour and... More

This is a little better than average but not quite "very good" museum. My Chinese is so-so but not up to reading most of the signage but much is self explanatory. As I understand it this is the original Shanghai train station built in 1909. Kids will enjoy crawling around on the trains outside and ringing the bells and other... More

Unless I missed something there are a couple of exhibits (locos) outside and on ground floor inside some displays of historical photos and artefacts. All the explanations are in Chinese characters. After 10 minutes I was done. Still, it was only 10RMB.

Shanghai Railway Museum - for rail enthusiasts only, all in Chinese Realities: - entry fee: 10 rmb for adults; kids free (I can see why!) - nearest Metro is Baoshan Road, then walk out and RIGHT around the block - very strange opening times: 9am to 11;30am; 2pm to 4:30pm (!? long lunch time for staff) - very FEW hands... Went there and went up to security gate and 2 older guys in there very very rude actually they were the only bad attitude people I met on my travel's. They looked at me like what are you doing here and they have some stuff to look at an learn not much in English ( Yes I know I was... More

This is a smallish museum within walking distance of Baoshan metro station though if you don't speak Chinese it might be difficult to find. I visited a far better railway museum in Beijing so don't expect to see many full sized engines here and most information is in Chinese. It was a very hot day and a sit down would... More

Nice 1 hour visit Two rare US built steam Locomotives on site. A history of rail development in the Shanghai region. Plenty of rare pictures and interesting items for rail fans

I went with my son and my dad. My dad wished that the captions were in English - the only thing in English was basically the headings of each of the sections. My son liked looking at the trains outside, but we wished you could see the inside of some of them. He got to sit with the other kids... More

For a museum that's supposed to talk about railways of a fairly large area, in a country that greatly values its rail infrastructure, it's surprising that the museum is so tiny. The building has more than one floor, but the actual museum is just on the ground floor. There are only three original trains on display, one on the outside... More

This is a rather small but interesting museum. Two old trains on display in the outside area and one floor of displays, mostly in Chinese. There is a cool engineers simulation of driving a train, complete with sound effects. Admission is 10 Yuan.
