Built in the early Song Dynasty (960-1279), it is the oldest and largest temple in Shanghai. It is popularly believed that the temple gained its name Longhua from the legendary “Longhua” tree with branches extending some 20 kilometers, under which the Maitreya Buddha was enlightened.

I have been to this temple about 3 times, with different people I have always liked my visits. If you are looking for something huge and touristy then this might not be the place for you... however this is a glimpse of the Buddhist culture......More

A nice and relaxing temple which is close to the Longhua park. The restaurant serves Buddhist style vegetarian food.

While you can't go into the pagoda (it's leaning), the rest of the temple is well-maintained and legit - it doesn't have the "fake" feel of some other Chinese holy sites. The temple's been around since about the Three Kingdoms era, though it's been destroyed...More

It is hidden in hustle bustle of the city.many people had come early morning to pay respects. Again the skyscrapers had taken away charm of it

Visiting this place would totally give you a pretty deep insight about Chinese history and culture. Lots of knowledge about pagoda and stuffs.

A lot of people associate Shanghai to modern buildings but it's so much more. Shanghai has a lot of history and this temple is a great way to immerse yourself in that history. Longhua is the largest temple in Shanghai

A visit to this beautiful temper is a must. Be mindful you cannot take photos inside the area where the Buddha’s are located, but you can take photos from the doorways. Some redevelopment is happening around the area (May 2018) so traffic was busy. It...More

Rarely tourists there but the surroundings is perfect tranquil. The temple is just located near 龙华 station so it is very accessible. Even it is not a free entry but,trust me, it is worth it if you have a spare time around 2-3 hours left...More

Lots of statues to see here but what was really impressive was the floor to ceiling sculptures as shown in my attached picture. It had to take someone a very long time to complete this!
