I took my 5-year-old grandson to the bridge after a workout at the adjoining park. It was serene, cool, and perfect for a bit of respite. We had such fun imagining travel in its heyday. The hiking area behind it was fun and full of...More

Since we are big fans of covered bridges, we just had to drive the extra few miles when on a visit to our grandson at Auburn. The low rating is because there are no directions or address in the description! It took us forever to...More

Although non-functional at this time, it was once a major thoroughfare in historical times and is one of the few remaining covered bridges remaining in the US. It is truly a part of history!

This is close to our house. It has a trail with various types of shrubs planted. The bridge is over a creek. Its next to opelika city park that has a train and playground equipment. Nice park to bring the kids.

This is a place frequented by locals wanting to take pictures or just go for a walk. It's a nice area, attached to several other picture spots as well as the Municipal Park (which has a cool, restored, functioning mini train).

Great place to go and relax. The creek that runs under the bridge has shallow water and smooth rocks. A nature trail is always being improved, and the area has historical information spread around. Good place for a dog walk, picnic, or just a place...More

This old covered bridge was moved to this in town location and fully restored. It easy to get to and fully accessible. Parking is available. Nice for younger folks who have never seen such.

Salem-Shotwell Covered Bridge was one of the few remaining covered bridges in the county. In bad repair, it was moved and restored to the Municipal Park in Opelika. It is truly great to be able to share this piece of history with the younger generations.
