The Mobile Museum of Art includes a permanent collection of approximately 10,000 works of fine and decorative arts from America, Asia, and Europe, spanning periods from classical antiquity to the present day. The Museum is supported by a unique public/private partnership of city and community support; its facility is owned by the city of Mobile, and the art collection is privately owned.Founded in 1964, MMofA has grown from a modest initiative of The Board of Commissioners of the City of Mobile and two private arts entities, the Allied Arts Council, and the Mobile Arts Association, to the only accredited art museum in southern Alabama.

This museum was very clean, spacious, and nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our family usually doesn’t like modern art (a cube on the floor is not art!), but the exhibit currently on view - Do It - was super cool. Some of it...More

Had been recommended this venue by friends. Although the staff were friendly and helpful, the museum itself was rather disappointing. Not a great deal to see and exhibits were spaced out within a large area making it seem more extensive than it was. Spent more...More

I'd heard this museum was worth a trip from our guide at the Oakleigh House, and I'm so glad we listened! It wasn't on our original itinerary because it is pretty far removed from the historic attractions downtown, but it's worth the drive. The collection...More

I was very surprised at the collection the museum has acquired, quite beautiful. At the time I went, there was a beautiful wood exhibit that was unbelievable. I could have just sat and enjoyed the beauty.

I had a fantastic time at the Mobile Museum of Art. It's a little out of the way from most of Mobile's similar attractions, but it is more than worth the ride. The collection is absolutely stunning, and the museum is set up let people...More

My wife and I finally made time to go visit our local art museum. The where the museum is located is picturesque, with a large pond with a walking bridge nearby, also close to the Botanical Gardens. The museum has a wide variety of exhibits...More

Have lived in Mobile since 2010 and have found this museum to be consistently inventive in their choices of exhibitions with an emphasis on regional work of quality. They have a pretty comprehensive collection of glass art for such a small museum as well as...More
