Malacca river is one of the highlights of the city and best way to experience it is by walking along the river. The river banks have been converted into walkways for tourists and are very well maintained. You can take the boat ride aound river which takes around 45 minutes for whole round, but I would suggest taking a walk over boat ride as you can stop over the places and admire the buildings, stumble upon the street art and take beautiful pictures.
The river side right after the sunset is magnificent with the colorful buildings and artificial lights illuminating the river side street of Melaka. Stroll along the river side walking path or find a place to sit with a nice glass of beer or have a delicious dinner.

The Malacca River is where it all started. Once this river was a stinking waterway and now it has been cleaned up but not properly. The cruise is 9 km long and it takes 40 minutes. One cannot have an hop on and hop off and this such a shame. This reminds you of Venice. One can see painting on the wall and a tape playing on telling one of the various buildings along the river.

Nice and relaxing boat ride along the river. Colorful lighting done on the trees alongside the river and on the bridges.
You may also take a walk by the river side or have food and relax in the restaurant and bars on the river side.

The river cruise is fun activity to be enjoyed with families and visiting friends. The scenaries along the ride is colourful, especially of murals on buildings with historic and cultural insights. The ride can be enjoyed during the day and at night.

This area of Melaka is a tourists delight. The river winds through the old city and provides an interesting and fun walk along both sides of the river promenade. The wide range of interesting sights gives strength to the history and beauty of this remarkable city. The promenade also has a couple of patio restaurants that allow for a rest stop and treat while on the trek.

Malacca is preparing for additional tourism. The walk is nice. Small shops, hotels, resthouses, restaurants, pubs. Like in Penang, you can find big scale paintings on houses. The are tours as well by boat.going along the river up to a Malay settlement with beautiful, tradional houses.

I prefer to visit Melaka River at night as it more comfortable at night (the heat at day time could kill). In addition, the lighting alongside of the river was beautiful at night.
Plus, plenty of cafes and eateries alongside the river as well. So one can spend his/her time enjoying a meal or tea at night, at this place. After all, it is who you are travelling with is more important.

A fairly affordable ferry ride down malacca river where you can see mural paintings, old buildings and settlements of Malacca. The river is clean, a great job done by the state government. If you’re lucky, you could see some monitor lizards swimming or basking around

A wise and salute effort to Tun Ali Rustam because his idea to clean the river was turned into a tourist center that must be visited. You need to come take the children to Melaka and take the Melaka River Cruise. Just a few minutes you have explored the History of Melaka because the Melaka River Cruise tour guide will explain about the place and History of the places passed. Relax while getting to know the History of Melaka.

Look for the Museum Samudera ... there's a lane on the right just before it ... take the lane and you can park there. You'll see the River Cruise Ticket booth and jetty from where you park

The price I don't remember exactly but it was not a deal breaker. Maybe around 25 Ringets (4 Ringets to 1 US dollar). I used Travelex to exchange dollars to Ringets before leaving USA. It was very helpful as Grab Car took over Uber and most drivers quote in cash with most rides in Malacca being about 4 to 7 Ringets per trip. They do not expect or require tips. Malacca is different than Penang in this way. Hotel employees actually turned down tips.

Please tell me whether these boats can carry large crowds about 200 people ( like the boats in Bangkok). If not approximately how many people can ride in one boat?
Written 3 February 2016
Do check out site for more info - /melakarivercruise. The boats are much smaller than those in Bangkok. It carries between 20-40 persons per trip. You could easily split the group in different boats if you are going in a large group and the boats run quite regularly. Recommend to take the ride in evening or night when the weather is cooler
