The ship is well preserved and the diorama is well researched and presented. Explained in some detail about the early Malacca sultanate. The upper most deck was closed for maintenance but currently there is enough to read and see. Need at least 2 hours to explore and read.

This Maritime Museum lures you in with the boat housing, but delivers nearly nothing. The inside of the boat has almost no value and is mostly composed of signs of questionable quality. You'd probably be better off just watching a YouTube video on the history of Melaka. Do yourself a favor and just take a photo of the exterior of the boat and know you've seen the best of it. Save the money and spend it on the observation tower, the river cruise, or a nice lunch.

This is a museum for kids. It is a replica of a Portuguese ship with wax human figures depicting the different traders in Melaka. A small museum if you compare with other countries.

As you approach the pay station you are faced with a sign “foreigners 20 RM, locals 10 RM!
You have to take your shoes off and leave them outside. I burnt the soles of my feet on the hot deck.
There are a couple of levels of posters and model ships and that’s it! Avoid.

If you never visit this museum, you can try once!! Well i went there couple of times and still not impress by how the management handle the place. First,the place is small and super HOT due to no A.C environment. I was expecting at least a fan to keep us cold while enjoying reading the history stuff but I can't stand the heat so we stay for 10 minutes and just go. I don't think the management maintain the place well. I felt like they kinda give up this place already! Come on, do your best!!!

Wandering along the quayside I popped in and for RM10 I saw a badly built replica of a ship and across the road saw a small collection of Royal Malaysian Navy artefacts.
The naval collection was interesting, but this place should be much larger and have more active exhibits. If only the Navy was larger!!!!
The staff were polite and friendly.
Coming back I stopped and bought a "snow ball" from a vendor. This is the inside of a baby coconut, the whole white sac from inside, Delicious.

About 20 years ago, I visited my sister in law and her family in Malacca and she took us on a walking tour around the various scenic attractions in Malacca. Back then, the Malacca River was blackish like charcoal, filthy and polluted and there was a stench when you got close to it. There were also stilted wooden squatters along the riverside and you could see the residents washing their clothes and linen and dumping basin of waters into the river.
I also remember there was an Indian push cart hawker selling chengdol by the river opposite the Dutch Square. The weather was scorching hot on that day and despite the stench from the river, we ordered two cups of chengdol from him and gulped them down to quench our thirst before proceeding to have our lunch at the famous chicken rice ball stall along Jonker Street. I also remember we visited this maritime museum after our lunch.
Now, after so many years, things had changed. Malacca has been designated an UNESCO heritage site and the river is no longer filthy and dirty and there was no more stench. The squatters on stilits had also been demolished and you now see beautiful tourist boats cruising along the glittering river. I also could not find the Indian push cart hawker selling the sweet chengdol drinks.
But this Portugese ship Flora de la Mar on display at this maritime museum had not changed location or appearance over the years. It has largely survive through rain and sun and remained unchanged through times and still standing proudly and strongly by the Malacca River. It has become an icon of Malacca just like the Dutch Red Square and the A Formosa fortress.
One thing I like about Malacca is that most of the scenic attractions can be covered by walking. From Jonker Street (Chiinatown) you can walk to the Dutch Red Square, then to the Malacca River, the Maritime Museum, the A Formosa, and the many museums in one goal. The place is so historic, unique and lovely!

Looks far more impressive on the outside than delivers on the inside - poorly maintained models with hard to read historical data boards - definitley not enough to engage a child for too long. Due to being poorly maintained it is worrying to walk around barefoot and the steps are a little steep for the very young or very old

Not even close to a “replica”. Sorta looks like a poorly maintained boat from the peeling outside but inside it’s a three-story container for Google page-prints mounted on the walls. Ditto the adjacent Ocean Museum. Very few actual displays and memorabilia.

Need more air con inside especially the ship part .. 2nd part was better but still need more light and explanation .. some room is really not interesting where you just see large poster with explanation hanged on the wall. Will be better if the TV that I thought supposed to show some explanation is really turned on and not just left there not working.

We've stayed at Hallmark Crown. But since we both love to walk, we simply walk to it. But u can find a hotel near to Dataran Pahlawan area. I bet it much closer compared to ours. 😊

Admission Fees
The entrance fee for Maritime Museum is RM 3.00 per entry for adult and RM 1.00 for children and students. But there are additional fees for digital audio guide services.
Opening hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm
But the ticket counter closes at 4:00pm, I missed on my first day afternoon At Melaka. So I’ve to come on the 2nd day morning.
