This is actually a museum to chart the struggle to become an independent country, with memorabilia and video displays. Worth visiting if a history fan.

The most impressive part of this attraction is the building in which the museum is housed. It contains a vast amount of information, slanted somewhat towards the contribution of the Malay section of the community rather than a more balanced view. However the displays are poor and it is difficult to read many of the documents. A thorough overhaul could... More

More eye catching than the colonial building are the customized trishaws flashing in the night as they look for passengers in this pedonal area. The decoration trends vary from old time favourite Miss Kitty to newer Disney characters and Pokemon. Every driver has constructed their own vehicle and they pulse with led lights as giant insects in the dark. The... More

Melacca has very beautiful colonial buildings, and this isn't different, amazing facade; inside you could know about country independence.

We visited the place and there is no entry fee. Once inside, we saw manuscripts, video tapes, films and slides depicting events leading to Malaysia's independence in 1957. We shed tears when we saw Tuanku Abdul Rahman proclaimed the words 'Merdeka,Merdeka, Merdeka' at Merdeka Square.

The building is quite amazingly built. It is one of the best places in Melaka for those who love architecture. It is located very close to the A' Famosa.

If you are interested in the history of Malaysia, this is the place to be. Entrance is free and everything is well explained. If you already visited the national museum in Kuala Lumpur: this museum tells the same story about the independence, but much more in detail.
