Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having heard so much of this place, I was excited to try out the nyonya kuih. It was just as I expected and the kuih were very good. However, what tipped the review to 5 stars is the freshly made ondeh ondeh on site. I bought a packet and it was like a taste of heaven, soft, warm, goeey and bursting with flavour of the gula melaka filling. What really sets it apart is the sprinkling of sesame seeds on top. Quite honestly, this is the best ondeh ondeh I have ever tasted. Of course, having devoured the packet, I had to go back for another. The staff were so friendly and obliging. Top marks from me :o)

Well worth the search to locate this quaint shop. Their kuehs are of superior quality. They are closed on thursdays. Be prepared to queue and it gets squeezy inside if a bus load of tourists arrive.
The ondeh ondeh, the kueh dadar, the pulut are all must trys. The sambal belachan is good. The price is really reasonable.

The kuih quality is absolutely not what it was a year ago. Just sweet and gummy. Some were just plain bad examples bengkang. Kuih sold by the chain ‘Nyonya treats’ in Johor is a lot more delish. Tried the nyonya laksa and did not finish as it was not tasty. Same for Cendol. Customer service still ok but kuih quality is poor.

Bought few varieties of kuih. Spent RM70+. Unbelievable. Tried all. None suit my family taste-bud. In fact, kuih from my hometown tasted much nicer. We were surprise with the taste of that triangle ketupat. It's sweet and mixed with desiccated coconut. Thought the original taste should be little salty with only beans (眉豆). The texture of ki-chang kind of hard despite I re-steamed. They have wrapped it too tied and the glutinous rice has no room to expand. The kuih bingka tasted too sweet and can't taste the ubi. The red color layer kuih, too soggy. I can't even peel it layer by layer. Basically, all the kuih no distinctive taste and lack of aroma. Only sweet and blueish. Very disappointed. The only kuih which edible is nyonya chang. But not the best. Note: They disallowed photo taking.

I do not know what other said, but to us, we love it.
Their Kueh taste was excecllent especially for my favorite Kueh Bongkong, Kochi, Ketayap and some others.
And DON'T forget to try their NASI LEMAK. We love their Nasi Lemak bungkus. The rice was so soft and nicely cook with the sambal. Simple normal nasi lemak but taste very nice!
If you like Tapai, they sell it too, heard is good.
Yes the location a bit tricky, here GPS Coordinate I've save it for your convenience.

It's an off beaten track from the buzz from central but not too far from Dataran Pahlawan. Don't get too shocked when you drive into a very narrow road. There are small signage placed which tells you that you are the right place.
Wanted to buy more stuff cause all the kuihs looks delicious but lack of sufficient cash when we were there. Only bought the homemade chili (balacan & sambal chili) and they tasted awesome.

Nice variety of kuehs and other products. Staff unhelpful and unwilling to pack kueh in plastic containers - cannot meet customer’s needs even when I was willing to pay for containers!!!. They pack kueh in flimsy paper boxes which may not be suitable for travel. Bring your own containers. They do sell pre-packaged mixed kuehs in small and larger containers. Some kuey was highly disappointing – rice was undercooked – see pic

Do Baba Charlie Cafe selling kuih too? what's on their menu?
Written 30 May 2016
They now have a Restaurant selling aunthetic Peranakan dishes!! It's on the other side of the main road. And of course, the indistinguishable name remains, BABA CHARLIE CAFE RESTAURANT.
Nice with air-conditioned inside, the double-storey shoplot has both restaurant and homestay above, it will transcend you back into the 80's with their awesome and delectable dishes!

Does anyone know the exact location of the night market at Kota Laksamana where they have a stall there on Saturdays? Thank you in advance!
Written 27 March 2015
I don't think so. But let's hear from others as well. But my own thoughts is that baba Charlie has always been a single home based family nonya kueh operation
