Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Over the span of two(ish) hours, we hiked Rainbow Mountain Loop, JaMooKoo Trail, and Balance Rock Trail. These trails were very well-maintained and well-marked, and we saw lots of beautiful Spring flowers in bloom! There were some rocky parts on the trail, but it was mostly dirt and easily navigable. The terrain consisted of gently sloping trails but nothing steep (our four-year-old did just fine on all three trails).

I recommend getting there somewhat early, as the parking lots fill up quickly. There is a playground just off the trailhead, and leashed dogs are welcomed on all trails. There are also no fees to hike here.

We're excited to return to explore the other trails!

We came to Rainbow Mountain Trails not knowing what to expect. We did parts of the trail and enjoyed the parts we did hike. We found the trails marked by name but we weren't prepared to do all the trails at that time. We look forward to coming back and being better prepared.
There is a picnic pavilion and a small children's playground. There was ample parking on the day we were there.
Disappointed to see so much trash and debris off trail along the Balance Rock trail. Looks like a large gathering had occurred off the trail recently.

We stopped in Madison, Alabama to break up the drive going to Destin, Florida. We stayed at the airport Hampton Inn which was very nice. Then we drove to the Rainbow Trails to hike. We went on the trail leading to the balance rock. We came upon that formation in 5-10 minutes and it was very nice. Then we kept walking and as dusk was just starting we realized we were lost. We were told that wouldn’t happen so we didn’t take a trail map. We should have at least taken a picture of the trail map that was at the beginning of the trail. We saw no signs that pointed us back in the direction of the parking lot. Finally we took out our phones and used google maps. Finally found our way back!! Little exciting but lesson learned.

Rainbow loop, south, past Berry Trail, is not an easy hike. It is very rocky and somewhat steep causing you to have to really watch your step. This continues as it turns back North. we cut through Spring Trail to get back up quicker, although it was all rock and steep also. The mountain is beautiful but I wasn't expecting the entire trail to be so rough. I wouldn't take young children on this trail beyond Balance Rock.

I hiked here two times over the week end. The first trail was difficult and led down to a water fall and trail was very muddy due to recent rain. The second hike was much easier maybe a mile and well marked. The scenery was beautiful.

I like the lovely terrain at Rainbow mountain. There are hiking trails that are not too strenuous. Go!

First time there, brought a coarse print out of the area & trails. On way back, got lost for about 1 hour. The trails are not well marked. Eventually was able to use my cell to determine my location and briefly walked off trail to get to the exit. It was challenging, enjoyable, til the wandering started. Will return only with company.

I have been to these trails a few times and have always come home with ticks. I know you should explained since you are in nature. Personally I prefer the trails on the back side of Monte Sano that go up to the overlook.

Hike is a mile or so and not too steep. Kids can easily hike the trails. Very small stream and lots of rocks to climb. Parking is adequate as the trails aren't too busy. There's a small playground for kids near the entrance. Not much of views though but I hike there a few times per year.

We love to escape to this mountain right in the middle of the city of Madison. The rocks are fun to climb on and we enjoy the views. We are pleased to have something so unique right in our backyard!
