After a long, winding drive to the middle of nowhere, the jail is clean and well-kept, but theres really nothing else to see or do. There is a note to go to the post office to see artifacts, but it was closed on a Saturday. We went to eat across the street at Chef Troy’s, but it was blah, too.

Went to jail!

Interesting construction of this old jail. I enjoyed seeing Eagle Scout projects at this location. Free, but left a donation.

Cute little log jail from days gone by. Clean and well-kept. Can eat lunch at Chef Troy's after you visit the jail.

Neat Stop & Free

If You Read Everything it will be much more interesting. Where you sign in it says make sure you go to the post office to see artifacts from the original jail. Well we were there Saturday afternoon so the PO was closed but what we got to see inside there was very cool. I love history. Our kids enjoyed reading the history lesson. Nice short stop.

I'm sorry but not alot to see here folks...

I'm sorry but with all due respect there's nothing here noteworthy of seeing folks, honestly, but there's a pretty good down-home "gourmet" place to eat across the road, so make your trip a "HUNGRY" one and perhaps one could briefly "walk-off" their dessert, lol at the jail for a few minutes...

It was a neat little day trip. You can explore the cabin and take photos at your leisure. If you like you may leave a donation out front.

Great brief stop if you enjoy history

This log building has nails close together to prevent prisoners from cutting their way out. Two small rooms, each with a “convenience hole” in the back wall comprise the entire building. There are two, tiny, windows in the walls. It’s hard enough to believe it housed prisoners; harder yet to believe is was used as a family residence.

The history of Houston and of Winston County is well documented on the signage.

Carried my wife to Houston to see this old log jail. It has been preserved very well, hard to believe prisonors were kept in this tiny bldg.

Very nice how they have preserved history of this little hidden gem. If you are in the area it's worth the quick stop to take a peak.

Eye opening
Apr. 2017 • Couples
Small, wooden, dark. Probably cold in the winter and definitely hot in the summer. Hard to picture more than two prisoners at a time. Interesting. Across from Chef Troy's Restaurant.
