A 4-mile round-trip from trail head to beach and back. A peaceful observation deck is about half way and overlooks Gater Lake and Little Lagoon. There are posted signs for various fauna including deer moss which I found interesting. It is best to go when...More

The Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge has extensive trails. However, with the high temps that the Fort Morgan area experienced last week, we only visited the nature center. There is a volunteer docent on staff, along with several rangers. We were able to speak with...More

During our recent visit to Gulf Shores Alabama, we got pushed off the beach by a rain storm. So we decided to do the drive through Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. It was a very scenic drive. We stopped at the Welcome Center. They have...More

This NWR is beautiful as you would expect. We parked at the Pine Beach Trailhead, put on sunscreen and bug spray and got on the trail. All along the way there are signs providing the names of the different types of trees and flowers. This...More

The grounds have been laid out beautifully. As you walk through the paths, keep your eyes open for the wildlife. There is somethinghere for everyone. Bird watchers bring your binoculars.

This wildlife refuge is beautiful. We peddle kayak in and around this refuge to fish, watch seagulls, pelicans and other waterfowls and commune with dolphins close up such that we hear them breathing. It is a natural land mass that is teaming with diverse vegetation...More

Definitely do this in the early morning. We started on Gator Lake trail. It wasn't long before we had flies biting us. A little bug spray or essential oils for a repellant might be a good idea. Once we hit the main gravel trail things...More

This was one of the highlights for our kids (7 and 10) They had a blast swimming and finding crabs. We hiked along the beach, found a great little sandbar and picknicked. What a peaceful and authentic experience with our kiddos.

We grew up here and have been going for 25+ years. Although it's gotten busier over the last 5 or 6 years, "busy" season is still under 150 people on a Saturday and weekdays a couple dozen. If you get here first thing in the...More

It is a long walk from the trailhead to the beach and much of the path is covered with loose sand. It is a beautiful hike and the beach is very secluded. Great exercise for your legs. The beach is gorgeous and serene and... More

No, dogs are not allowed even on leashes. There is a sign at the entrance stating No animals. I would think Service Dogs are allowed because they are allowed anywhere. It's a fun & worthwhile walking tour.
