Every ranger or employee is VERY helpful and knowledgable. This is a great place for families to visit. It has a nature center, (short) walking trails, a nature observatory - which is a great place to view the Sandhill Cranes when they winter here.

We stopped here on a whim and were surprised. The staff was very informative. Wish we had come during the migration season so we could see the birds. Will be back.

This is the place to go if you want to see the abundant bird life of Decatur. The refuge is especially beautiful in waterfowl season, but it's worth a visit any time of the year.
