We actually liked this fort better than Fort Morgan - smaller, but not as much walking & not as many steep stairs to climb & better scenery. They did not have a military discount on admission like Fort Morgan does, though - still not bad...More

Fort Gaines is a nice place for families to learn the history of this place. A leisure stroll with period cannons and the fort itself. Beach is right around the back side and you can fish off of rocks. Also you can catch the sunrise...More

History buffs will like it but it is just an old fort with walls.Your time is better spent on the island enjoying nature, fishing, and going to the beach.

If you have extra time on the island, then add this to the list of things to do. Depending on how much one enjoys history, it could be more interesting to some than others.

Been to the island.many times but never took the official tour. This is a great and inexpensive way to get the history of the island. Self guided walking tour and great museums of local history...must do if you like history!

According to Dog friendly. Com, dogs are allowed on grounds if on leash and cleaned up after.
