We took 3 teens and 1 preteen to the historic site to learn about the fort in mid-July. It was fun climbing around, up and down, in all the nook and crannies. The museum, air conditioned thank goodness, was well laid out and had some...More

We visited in the morning and it rained, but it was still great. We walked all over the fort. The museum is informative and interesting. The cannons are awesome. The staff is friendly and helpful.

I've only been to two forts, one 1/3 scale replica of a fort, two sites where forts once stood, and a national historic battleground, so I'm no expert on the subject of forts. In my opinion, Fort Gaines was the most interesting, informative and well...More

The whole family enjoyed exploring the fort. The blacksmith was on site that day too. You can easily spend 2-3 hours here.

Fort Gaines was not nearly as crowded as Fort Morgan, but certainly just as interesting. The walking tour was very well marked and so informative. The museum was excellent, even though it was small. Again, wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
