It has an architecture which is from Europe and you admire because the church is well maintained and neat and clean. Sunday service attracts lots of devotees and tourists.

Apparently the only Scottish Church in Kolkata, also called the Kirk. This was opened for public in 1818. Foundation stone was laid by Marquis of Hastings

This can be seen if you are around BBD Bagh area. There are scores of other heritage buildings and structures like the Raj Bhawan,GPO,Reserve Bank of India,SE Rilway booking office at Fairley place, etc
This Church was built just at the site of Old Court House which was demolished earlier.

Situated at BBD Baugh, the impressive white Church is right at the busy road intersection with no parking space. The tall spire stands out from the surroundings while the white pillars on the front give a wonderful look. Efforts have been made to reduce outside sound, yet due to traffic noise, peace is disturbed.

I had read about St Paul's Church and other Churches in Kolkata and not about this. While on way back from Howrah Bridge, suddenly the skyline showed the spire of this church, next to Writers' Building and I stopped. In the middle of the traffic, I saw this church and took some photographs. The foundation of this Scottish Church was laid in 1815 and completed and inaugurated in 1818. The Governor General Hastings was present at the inauguration of this Church. The fact of it being there for more than 200 years make it heritage building but its location make it difficult to visit.

St. Andrew's Church, located in the Lal Bazar district, also known as Kirk, is the only Scottish church in Calcutta and was only open to the public on March 8, 1818. St. Andrew's Church was built right on the site of the Old Court House, which was demolished in 1792. The first stone was laid on November 30, 1815 by the Marquis of Hastings. Countess Moira and Countess Loudon attended the stone-laying ceremony. In 1835, the clock was installed on the tower. It was developed by M / s Burn, Currie & Co. He was also known as "laat sahib ka girja" (governor's church). The name probably came from the fact that the first stone was laid by the wife of Governor General Marquis Hastings.
Surprisingly, the church is currently in fairly good condition.

One of the better maintained churches that I've visited here. Essentially a Scottish church right at the heart of the city. Well worth a look.

St Andrew”s Church with a tall white spire crowned with a black weather cock situated in the North East corner of the BBD Bag just east to the Writers Building is a land mark structure which attracts the attention of the countless people passing through the area every day. The foundation stone of this Scottish Church, the first in Kolkata, was laid on November 30, 1815 by Marquis of Hastings. It was opened to the public on March 8, 1818. This milky white Kirk, designed by M/s Burn, Currie & Co, was built at the site of Old Court House which was demolished in 1792. Services in this heritage Church which has celebrated its bicentenary in 2018, is held in every Sunday at 9.30am and on New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Christmas Day, all at 9.30am. Holy Communion is celebrated on the third Sunday of each month. Church Office is open from 10am to 2pm every day except Mondays and Public Holidays.

The church is oddly located blocking the street, thats the first thing that would come to your notice. but I believe the road around was built much later than the church hence the anomaly. The church was built by the Scottish, dates back to 19th century and is well preserved.

I was visiting Kolkata with my friends and family for a wedding in November, December 2017, and while shopping in Lal Bazaar, we came across the St Andrews Church. I realized it was a beautiful structure, very well maintained and it is a part of Kolkata's history. Heritage is well kept and will be there for generations to see. The church as such has beautiful architecture and gives positive vibe, the church just seems to be very busy though due to traffic and shopping around.
