Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Avoid this place if you can! The place smells of cheap food and the staff are extremely rude and impolite. The selection and quality of the books on display is also pathetic.

Extremely rude staff !!
Earlier, this place was known for being a very positive and caring place where you could leisurely browse and get good books. But now they stock many books in torn condition and on being asked why very rudely state that you either take it or else go to College Street (Well know place in Kolkata having hundreds of book stores)) to buy good quality books !!
What a fall from their high pedestal when they are comparing themselves with the small book stores of College Street.
This is how organizations fall from high fame to obscurity !!

It's a very good idea to go to these bookshops, look for books (English titles only) and have a coffee or something to eat on the first floor. The toilets can also be used.

Well, the location is perfect and I love the old-school bookshop look.
Unfortunately tnere’s no ‘charm’ - the place looks nice but the very limited ‘cafe’ fills the entire store with the smell of stale oil so it’s not very pleasing. One of the most appealing things in a bookstore is the ‘smell of books’, not the smell of food

I enjoyed the books and gifts in this well known bookstore on park street in downtown Kolkata. We wandered the aisles for over an hour and everyone bought something. Helpful clerks looked up books we were trying to find.

This place is a heaven for book lovers. Even in this digital age, the smell of fresh books energises me. It has a huge collection of books, starting from every genre to every category.
It also sells other products like travel accessories like neck pillow, eye mask etc along with stationery items like pens, pencils, notebooks etc.
In short, it is a whole world in itself.

I happened to be in this place after a few years. It was a real pleasant surprise to find a Tea corner at mezzanine floor of the shop. Reasonably priced coffee, Tea and snacks. Good ambiance and equally good service... Surprised to find, unlike CCD and Barista and other coffee shops, the bottled water is sold at MRP, not like other hotels, where they hike up rates or store only expensive bottled water ... Of course the collection of books at store is vast...

It is a charming place for book lovers. One can almost feel that books are chosen and kept with love. A flight of stairs to come to landing with ample sitting space to read a book in peace. One can also go up another flight of stairs to reach a coffee shop where one can munch or sip a coffee. Casual visitors should keep around 30 mins of browsing time. Serious book lovers can spend upwards of couple of hours.

A abode of ocean among for the book lovers. Very well collection of all books, be it regional, Indian or International. Travel section is a must visit. Few stationery items are also available. On the 1 st floor their is a Tea Lounge, try the Darjeeling tea. If lucky you may witness a book launch program. They need to improve on the storage(bag keeping) section or better install a sensor at the exit.
