Lovely ride
Jan. 2021
We loved the ride when we left Darjeeling. We had left Ghoom and the train broke down. We had to take a cab back as it was going to take an hour to get an engineer out to even look at train

The joy ride train stops in Ghoom for 20min - time for us to go around the small little museum. Very interesting facts and pictures about the DHR.

Highest station

A short train trip from Darjeeling ends and turns around in Ghum. There's a 25min stop where you can pop into the train museum.
The train isn't that flash- just the novelty of riding it I guess. Lots of bends and turns!

Its is very strange that their link is always down and you cant get tickets if you go personally but you get if you do online. This is a tourist attraction and how such can happen. Rest all fine. i have been to this place on 3 occassions and all 3 their link is down!

he Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, known affectionately as the toy train, made its first journey along its precipice-topping, 2ft-wide tracks in 1881 and is one of the few hill railways still operating in India. It has had Unesco World Heritage listing since 1999. Two-hour 'joy rides' from Darjeeling to Ghum and back satisfy most people's toy-train urges. There are normally around six of these pulled by antique steam locomotives daily, and three or so with diesel engines.ust one (diesel-powered) train in each direction daily makes the whole 88km (seven-hour!) trip between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling; another runs just from Kurseong to Darjeeling and back.

Pride of Darjeeling

A journey to Darjeeling is incomplete without a ride in DHR. It’s a must do activity . Highly recommended for all

One of the main attraction!
Jun. 2019 • Family
Being on the highest altitude, this place is one 9f the main attraction of Darjeeling. Can reach this place either by car or toy train (which most people take). After reaching, one can see the Ghoom Railway museum, where there are old photos of Himalayan Railway. This place can be maintained better as lot of tourists visit this everyday.
P.S - entry free to the museum.

Interesting trip

The train does a round trip from Darjeeling to Ghum. Stops there long enough for you to see the Museum and then returns.
We had to wait ages for it to leave and then it gets held up by traffic as it cross-crosses the street. So the whole thing takes the morning up. Views are no better than the road but the experience of riding a train through a busy city street is unmissable

Sadly no steam train!
Nov. 2019
we wetre hoping to be hauled by one of the Iconic Steam Trains but had to put up with new technology, the Diesel Train. Still it was a fun ride round the Streets of Darjeeling.
