Samthar is a tiny hamlet , off Kalimpong in West Bengal. Nearest rail head is New Jalpaigudi, from there it is about three hours Jeep ride. Most of the travellers visit Samthar in winter when orange orchards bloom with colours. But we choose early monsoon and discovered how the blessings of the Rain God turns the village a mystic dreamland. Rain washed colours and visual of mother nature are simply mind blowing. Flowers bloom all around, new crops are cultivated on the steps of the hills.... More

It was an awesome place near Klimpong like heaven. It is mainly amous for its views of millet and corn fields and orange orchards.

Located near Kalimpong a good 3to 4 hour ride from Darjeeling on roads that make off road driving look tame Samthar is heavenly. Famous for its views of the mountain ranges (kanchenjaga) and corn and millet fields and orange orchards. There are homestays which maybe expensive for routine tourists but when you consider the far off location the expenses are... More

It was December 2012 when we were going to visit Charkholey - our driver told us that there is a short-cut (no need to go all the way to Kalimpong and then Charkholey) to reach Charkholey. He crossed Kalijhora bridge (a new dam on rover Tista) which is not officially open for public and took the steep – gravel road... More
