Located just outside Chowrasta. After a steep but short climb, you will reach the temple, and its worth the time and effort. Must visit if you are religious and even if you are not religious.

You have to ride high rise roads for about 2 kilometers to reach this nice temple. If you visit Darjeeling you must see this temple.

A beautiful temple with both Hindu and Buddhist deities and an interesting history. The architecture has both influences and is something unique for anywhere.
we climbed through a steep trek through steps in front of Gymkhana. Elderly may find the place difficult to reach even through road

Mahakal temple is right beside the mall road. timings are 8:00a.m. to 5:30 everyday. We had to climb a little and in the middle of the way we had to take off our shoes and then visited there. ground was wet and so cold. Most important thing was to feel the peace among the whole area where only the holi bells were chanting with the hill winds, "Shiva".

Short, steep walk up from Mall. Worth the peaceful 30 minutes. Cool even in mid-afternoon. Recommended.

I visited the temple during the morning and it was an awesome experience. If you are planning to go with children take some extra time as climbing at the top might take some time.

Pros:
1. Nice and well maintained
2. Very clean
3. Beautiful atmosphere early morning with rhythmic chimes.
4. Priest take care of the puja for sufficient time.

Cons:
1. Slight challenge for elderly as one has to do a steep climb for 5 mins though a very short distance. Inclination around 40 degrees, but the road are concrete and paved.

Note:
Those who plan to offer puja, can collect the items for Rs 10/20 from the shop once you climb the road and reach the landing at the entrance.
