Fine monastery

It's quite a walk from the main square but worth the effort - great vies on the way and a highly decorative building once you're there

One can harness their peace of mind and introspect by visiting this place. A Pagoda style monestery lying just beside the main road, this Buddhist temple of worship is must see attraction for visitors of Darjeeling.

Someone told us that we could walk here. Perhaps they knew of a shortcut- the way the bird flies, but the drive was an adventure and I am glad we paid for it. The last mile? Well, hire a car and find out for yourself. We were the only non-Tibetans there, and that is not saying much, as there were... More

The walk down through the suburbs of Darjeeling is a lovely insight into local life but not for the unfit or infirm because you have to walk up again. The location is lovely on a misty precipice. I was met by a smiling, wizened old monk, very keen to share his knowledge, which I appreciated. He opened the monastery and gave... More

It is downhill from the mall. Next to the CCD, a road goes down towards the Bhutia Busty. You will not see any direction board or signage. Take the road and walk down for 10 mins or more you will see the monastery on the left hand side of the hill. Being on an off beat road, crowd will not... More

It was a great experience to visit this place with monks chanting, music playing, innocence burning and child monks playing cricket!

Being quite a way down from the central Chowrasta and not being sign posted makes the Bhutia Busty Gompa Monastery difficult to find, but if you do get lost, don’t hesitate to ask one of the friendly locals and no doubt they’ll point you in the right direction! The benefit of it being off the beaten track means you’re likely... More
