The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Hauz Khas Village
Known as ‘The National Capital of Ethnic Chic’, the hip and trendy Hauz Khas Village
is a beautiful urban village nestled in a corner among the ruins of domed tombs
of Muslim royalty from the 14th to 16th centuries, that merge into the modern day
Deer Park. Old homes here have been converted into fashion boutiques & chic
homestays, art galleries, jewellery shops, book and antique stores, multi-cuisine
restaurants, bars and nightclubs. HKV might be full of arterial narrow lanes but it is
the epicenter of Delhi’s most vibrant social life. In the spring and winter evenings,
visitors can stroll along the lake, watch the beautiful sunset from the ruins of the
fort or sip a cocktail at one of the many rooftop bars and restaurants overlooking it.

The area is a big one with entry from Safdarjung enclave side and also from main road side. It contains a deer park, the lake which was made by Allauddin KLhilji in 1500 and the historical monuments of Firozshah Tuglaq's Tomb, the mosque and Madrassa of 16th century of the time of AllaUddin khilji and Tuglaq dynasty.
The lake was initially made by Alla Uddin Khilji and later on dug dipper by Firozsha Tuglaq.
The Peacock are beautiful and easily seen in the park. The spotted deer are too beautiful. We could see small deer calves also.
It is also seen and found to be lover's paradise

Hauz Khas district park has a unique distinction: apart from usual things like a duck pool, restaurants, natural green, lovely trees, it has a lake built about 700 years back as source of supply for Siri, capital built by Alauddin Khilji and was called Hauz-i-Alai.

This beautiful park can be visited easily from SafdarJung Enclave, Green park, and R.K.Puram Adjoining this park, there is a Rose Garden, Deer Park, Fountain & District Park, Old Monuments. Restrooms and parking facility are there but not great. Maps are displayed to guide the visitors. Open all days and free entry!!
As a group of 30 (including senior citizens, little children and youth) there were ample lawns to choose from. The park is really big, clean, well-paved and well-maintained with a good landscape and some climb-ups too. Old people can avoid these and take the leveled pathways. We had one wheelchair and a baby push-cart and they were easy to maneuver. Whilst our picnic was to end, our cars were allowed inside the park to get old members board them.
Apart from the diverse flora and fauna, this park is a home to an ancient tomb, a large lake (was quite clean, there were anchored boats but seemingly it was no-boating season), deers and peacocks in a large enclosed area and other birds (migratory ones too). For nature and animal lovers, it is a delight to see a humongous number of deers so closely. Enjoy walking, jogging, playing and spending time with dear ones. We carried our own food. There were cleaners around to maintain the ambience of this place and many bins are installed too.

Time saw silting and lake drying up and Firuz Tughlaq renovated it and called it Hauz Khas, lake for the important people. He built a college in the surroundings and liked the place so much that built a tomb for himself well before his death. All in all, this district park is a lovely place, which has apart from a normal green walking trek, a beautiful walking trek around the lake. There are restaurants in the park and the whole place is nice for families, but is more visited by young lovers these days. From the lake side one can take good photographs of the lake and surrounding remnants of the college and structures built about 700 years back.

South Delhi is best known for sprawling residential neighbourhoods, endless shopping choices and evenings out. Qutub Minar tends to hog all the attention as far as history is concerned. And yet, there are other delights such as the Hauz Khas waiting to be discovered.
A narrow lane at the Northern end of Aurobindo Market on Aurobindo Road leads down to Hauz Khas Market, a tourist trap full of bric-a-brac, art galleries, designer ateliers and exotic dining. That's as far as most people get, more's the shame. Because a mere 100 metres more will see them enter this sylvan haven nestled secretly in South Delhi's heart. Hauz Khas literally translates as the Water Tank of the Royals. I guess a better translation would be the Royal Baths. Built by the Khilji Dynasty back in the 12th century, these near 1000 year old ruins still have the great tank, now surrounded by forest scrubland where migratory birds come nesting every winter. The Deer Park and Rose Garden are not far away so once you are here, it is easy to lose yourself in the tranquility and lapse into a contemplation of what life must have been like for the Khilji royals and their courtiers and underlings.
Best time, as early in the day as your schedule will allow.

One of the popular spots for picnic and hanging out with friends. The park is lush green with a pond in centre. Sunday is closed.

Hauz Khas District Park campus offers the widest variety and experience in a single campus from a lake to deer park to rabbits, ducks, geese, peacocks and other birds, a rose garden, dense forest and a historical monument overlooking the park. It is a delight for morning walkers and joggers with one loop of almost 6 Kms offering such visual diversity. It is one of my favourite parks in Delhi and I do wish that a more responsible agency take up the maintenance of the park and works towards its beautification. At the moment, most parts of the park are not well maintained, with broken pavements, filthy lawns and erratically maintained landscaping.

First of all I am not joking.........imagine a dense forest in the heart of Delhi.....with peacocks taking a walk with you, muddy jungle trails, criss crossed jungle roads leading you to a big deer enclosure, a rabbit enclosure and then finally ending up in a beautiful mystic lake with a lot of swans and to add to it an ancient alluding khilji tomb comb madrasah in the background and beautifully landscaped garden that too in a city and that too Delhi.......unbelievable indeed......best time is at sunrise or sunset as u loose the pleasure due to the heat in the day......must visit
