Captive Customers

As you enter the Red Fort you must stroll past the CC Bazaar first to get into the grounds proper. The shopkeepers hawk their wares as you pass and there where some interesting items on offer from toys, wood works, bags & fashion items etc. Not as noisy or pushy as other Chowks ! The actual shops date back to the Mughal Emperor reign. On the way out the wife bought a nice wood carving of Ganesh, the Hindu God.

Ancient bazaar turned modern
Dec. 2019
Chhatta Chowk Bazar and the Meena Bazaar were the old marketplace of the imperial complex of the Mughal imperial period when it sold items of the highest quality, now it’s just a market selling tourist souvenirs. There’s nothing here that you can’t get cheaper around various market places in Delhi.

Shopping stalls past entrance to the Red Fort
Dec. 2018
A wide variety of stalls, starting with cheap toys to more quality and traditional items as you went through to the ret of the Fort. Some bangles, scarves, carvings, and other traditionally Indian items for sale.

Market inside Red Fort
Dec. 2017 • Friends
During my holidays in Delhi, I had visited the giant Red Fort complex and this is a market inside the fort. The word Chhatta Chowk means covered bazaar. We entered the fort through the Lahori Gate and immediately came across this market where tourists can buy different types of souvenirs, gifts, artifacts, jewellery items to take back home as memory. We enjoyed walking through the market window shopping and the good thing was no nagging from the vendors.

Enjoyed walking through
Feb. 2018 • Couples
Sunday 11th February and we out exploring the sights of Delhi and the Red Fort was top of our list to see. We entered the Fort through the impressive Lahori Gate which led directly into this 2 storey passageway.

Chhatta Chowk actual means covered bazaar, on either side there are 32 archways each containing shops. There is the usual tourist goods and souvenirs on offer along with, silver, jewellery, clothing, in fact nearly everything under the sun was there. It was quiet a spectacle.

We were not hassled or pestered, we got the odd "come look at my shop" but that was it. We just strolled through soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the sights.

When we visited there was a lot of scaffolding up to allow for repairs and maintenance to be undertaken, this did not cause any problems.

This souvenir market is situated near Red Fort and of you are visiting Red Ford, you can visit this place too. As usual, bargain hard.

Seen better
Jan. 2018 • Family
There are better places to buy your India memories from, but not too bad. The shops are lined up on both sides and sell fairly standard items. As usual, bargain hard and if unhappy thank them and walk away.

You have to walk through here on a visit to the Red Fort so it is unavoidable. Nothing here is really worth buying to be honest.
