No contenting some folk. Qutb Minar obviously wasn't impressive enough. Onwards and upwards. Hassan Tower in Rabat, Morocco, springs to mind. Mingun Pagoda, just upriver from Mandalay, is a monstrous earthquake-ravaged folly. Stupa stupid. Yet prehistorically impressive and evocative. Towers of Babel in ruinous states are great vanity levellers. Aye interesting. The would-be builders of this uber-redwood stump must have... More

Alai Minar is located inside the Qutub Complex and it is a ruin of base section of a tower. The builder's intention was to built a tower taller and bigger than Qutub Minar. The construction of tower was started but remained incomplete. The project was shelved after reaching the first level. Alai Minar provides a good backdrop for taking photographs.

05 March, 2016. Given that we are long-time Delhi residents, probably the only time we get to visit monuments of interest in our home town, is when we have visitors. When one of my cousins came over with her family from the US, we visited the place. The Alai Minar stands out in a corner of the Qutub complex, which... More

You pay for Qutab Minar. This is a huge started pillar on the grounds. It let's you guess the size of it, which would have been monumental. Unfortunately it never made it over the status of the first couple of meters.

Would have surpassed the Qutab Minar if it ever was completed. A very ambitious project, it never did come close to completion as is evident. Yet a symbol of ambition as well as failure.

It is an incomplete minar built by Alauddin Khilji. He had planned it to be twice the size of the Qutab Minar but he died before it could be completed. It is located few hundred meters away from Qutub Minar. Today, you can only see the ruins of the incomplete structure. The Qutub complex is surrounded by various medieval structures.... More

Located in the Qutab Minar complex, this minar was planned to be constructed as taller than Qutab Minar. But due to some reasons the project could not materialised. It would have been an amazing structure if this would have completed. The base of minar is very big than the base of Qutab minar. This site is beautiful and surroundings are... More

The bigger, better tower was started but Ala-ud-Din died when it reached 27 m high & no one wanted to take the completion job on. It would surely have been an incredible feat if his project was realised.

This monument is located in the Qutab Complex. Alai Minar is supposed to have been built by Sultan Allaudin Khilji and the legend goes that it was planned to be taller than the Qutab Minar, but could not be completed. The base of the remains of the monument is definetly larger than the Qutab Minar and certainly bears out the... More

Located within the qutub minar complex, alai minar is an unfinished monument. it was originally planned to make Alai Minar double the size of qutub minar, but the plan could not materialize.
