It took us several hours to reach there. A long, tiring climb, surrounded by a huge crowd. Of course, you’re treated with an amazingly beautiful view from the top. Just be prepared to be jostled a bit by the locals during the climb. The frescos themselves took just a few minutes to see - suddenly you feel ‘hey, did I trek so long to see these few meters of frescos?’. Of course, they are beautiful and of historic significance. Maybe a good idea to start in the early morning to avoid the midday heat.

We started in the morning and that is the best time before the sun makes it warmer. Make sure you have a good guide with you to give an insight into the place. Not for the faint-hearted though.

Sumitting Sigiriya has been a lifelong dream.. it took three decades, a pandemic and a few adventurous friends to make it come true. When I told people it was my first time, they were in shock..I now understand why. It transcends time and space, and is worth every step you take and the aches after. Take your time to savor the sumitt. There's quite a few things to see and relish

One of the must visit place in Sri Lanka & great wonders of the world. This is a UNESCO heritage site protected for its history. Sigiriya rock fortress is a classic example for Sri Lankan ancient architecture & talent of the people. Weekends are generally busy & suggests to visit on week day.

This 5th century AD rock fortress is a must visit for any local visitor or foreigner. starting the journey very early (gates open at 06.30am) will be great as you can escape from the scorching midday sun and large number of visitors at late hours.it takes about 45min to get to the top of the rock normally.there is a vast number of places to see around the rock but most visitors tend to get to the top and also see the frescoes. the view from the top is breathtaking and the wind is very strong. Follow the instructions given along the way to prevent damage to the historic remnants and escape the attacks of giant honeybees nesting around the rock(this is a very rare incident).carry a bottle of water with you and don't dispose any polythene or plastic items on the way. Make sure to visit the museum at the entrance of the fortress.
