Either go very early or later in the afternoon. We chose the latter and it was comfortable for both the ascent and descent. It wasn't very crowded when we were there so able to take our time. It took about 45 minutes to complete the ascent. View from the top are lovely and worth the climb.
Make sure you have plenty of water .

Be prepared to climb about 1200 atep steps to get to the top of the rock. It takes about 2.5 hours to go up and down. About half way up you will the frescoes of woman from the Harem. At the top you will get a view of the area and the distant mountain. Take comfortable shoes, a hat and a bottle of water. It is hot and sunny. We started the walk very early in the morning to beat some of the heat.

Like Machu Picchu or Masada, Sigiriya impresses visitors just with the absurdity of its construction. It's a huge rock formation that's been carved and transformed into a palace. The ruins are near the town of Dambulla in the central part of the country.

The Amazing entrance is one of the best part in Rock Fortress. While climbing the rock, we can see many special ancient wall arts in Sigiriya. The garden is wonderful. We can see the ruins of the fortress on top of the rock.

Go with your friends so you can enjoy the trip very well! It is better go their in Summer.

Sigiriya Fort, with its beautiful surroundings and elaborate design, is a perfect place to visit, especially for those with an educational and exploratory purpose. The Sigiriya tour is also a valuable opportunity for all those who wish to experience the freshness of the arduous journey.. It is best to cross the rock before the sun rises in the afternoon or after the sun has set in the afternoon... 🤕

This place is not for the unfit as there are a lot of stairs but the views and the whole experience is amazing. We were lucky because it was overcast for our climb. Definitely bring water and wear sunscreen and a hat.

Firstly it's a ruin. So you don't get to see walls or actual structure. It's left to your imagination.

It's for people who love to trek, climb, walk in the hot sun.

I would suggest you to not go by the Ariel view or drone shots. You won't find the place like that unless you are flying. So once you reach the top after walking, climbing, sweating it's entirely left to your imagination.

Price is high. Do it if you like sweating it out. The view is nice from the top. You can just feel WOW and think how someone would have built a palace on this huge rock. That's about it.

We had a great experience around this rock fortress. The Tickets for SAARC nations are at a discounted rate of 15USD. you need to provide your actual passport to avail the discount. For non saarc nations the tickets are 30 USD. We hired a local guide who asked for 5K LKR but we bargained and got him to agree for 3K. He explained all relevant details right from the start. Great site to visit.. The climb is a little strenuous and become overcrowded sometimes. Overall we completed the climb and descend in around 2 to 2.5 hours (along with my kid - 7 year old). View from the top is great . you can see a huge buddha statue a little far away and also the pidirangula rock. Overall i recommend a visit to this heritage site.
