Kandy has been a kingdom which was founded on the marriage between South Indian and Sinhalese traditions -quite literally so as most of Kandyan Kings had both Tamil/Sinhalese blood running in them. Thus its no wonder the combination contributed to Temple art /architecture as well. Galmaduwa -a must see.

A very beautiful and unique temple with a lot of history. Looks more like a 'Kovil', rather than a Buddhist Temple. A must visit in Kandy.

Galmaduwa temple has a chamber, where the Architecture is alien to Sri Lanka. The Architecture is from south India, where the temple was built such to please a consort of the Kind of that time whom came from South India. Sinhalese rejected the idea and the chamber was not appreciated as it was not accepted to our culture. Chamber still remains and good place to visit.
