This holy place is considered as the oldest building in Kandy. Dedicated to god Natha. You have a temple inside with lord Buddha's shrine room. You can buy fruit offerings to Devala from a shop inside for about Rs. 600.00. But, the site to be developed a lot. Also foreign travelers rarely visit it.

this is adjacent to the Tooth relic temple. Since the tooth relic temple had a massive crowd we visited this temple which is similar in architecture to the ones in southern Kerala.

This is by far the largest and the oldest of the four Devale associated with the Royal Palace and Tooth Relic. In fact, it is the place where the king would visit to recieve his royal name prior to his coronation. Another part of the splendid palace complex which is excellent to wander around barefoot and take it all in.

Natha devalaya situated in-front of the Temple of tooth and this is one of 4 devalaya (House of God) situated around Temple of Tooth. People visit this place for religious activities and ask god for help on there problems.

Natha Devale has a close relationship to Buddhism, because religious chronicles says the God "Natha" is the Bodhisathva who will become Buddha next. Therefore all Buddhist people worship God Natha. The architecture of the Devala building is also special. It has a stone built roof called "Gedi Ge" which is found in 17th century South Indian architecture. According to some... More

The existence of one Buddhist and three Hindu shrines closely connected with each other is a pure example of the curious combination of Hindu and Buddhist faiths. These shrines are the Natha Devale shrine with its presiding divinity the Mahayana Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. The Maha Devale or the shrine of Visnu is one of the Brahmanical Triad. The shrine of the... More
